There are a lot of reasons why a shoot might not get a good response in comparison to others. It could be the timing of the release, the style of the shoot or many other reasons. Sadly I have a feeling that there is some discrimination at play.
Australia has a reputation for it's "gentle racism" and I don't think some countries are far behind. The US is possibly more overt in it's racism....
