R9 Dome

A fairly rare dome, thought I'd just mock a couple up, get the basic frames for future releases.

Full Scale Domes - Higher Rez

You're looking at the mesh for the full scale domes for all you lunatics who want to print a full scale dome in a single print. I've added a couple more following the MightJabba's first test print which had noticeable "facets". They're in the custom folder in the Patreon share, Dome, DomeHR and DomeHR2, with HR2 being the highest rez. You can see the density in the pic, the darker one is the highe...

Jabba Tray (2 leg mode) done!

OK, all files printed and tested. I've published to the Patreon Early Bird folder... Also there's instructions published in the instruction folder.

The Three leg version is coming, and I'm going to look at adjusting to allow full dome rotation.

Happy Printing, Mike.

Fusion design video 2. Domes, domes!

A second video, in this one I cover a couple of other tools and show three basic dome designs ending with approaching the R4 basic dome shape, one of the more complex basic dome shapes.

This videos are pretty much just me using Fusion in my own way to create the designs I’ve shared. They’re not professional tutorials but I found Learning was easier watching someone else designing and s...

First version of the Jabba tray printed!

Design and printed. Build and print is nice (and easy). This is an accurate 2 leg version however the accuracy means the dome can’t rotate fully as the holoprojectors will hit the arms and it’s a two leg version. Next bits are to move things around so the dome can rotate on 2 legs and the 3 leg version. I expect the tray to be the same for the 3 leg version, just different legs. Happy printing...

First fusion vid

Published the first YouTube clip for our dedicated Patreons, showing a basic build and cut of a rough R5 droid shape to get the basics of fusion 360. Mike

First Fusion Video!!

So, ILM it isn't and Harrison Ford I'm not, however here's the first test (draft, rough.. choose your words) video for Fusion 360 for my dedicated supporters!! A step through creating this R5 "thing" but it's really an intro and get to grips with the basics, origins (planes), Sketches, Bodies and the basic interface through to cutting and preparing for printing.

It's not a professional tut...

Fusion design videos

Ok, I’ve started to put together some (very rough) and instruction videos for our dedicated Patreons ($5 upwards) as an additional thank you. I’ll do an intro to Fusion (making and printing a small R2 shaped droid) and then I’ll do one which shows creating domes, R2, R4 and R5. Then we’ll create and share the detailed R5 print (which is a new dome). Sound OK folks?

R2 Tray n stuff

The R2 Jedi Tray is virtually finished for the two leg mode. Gotta do the three leg arms but that isn’t a big job. Files are in the wip folder (v2) if you want to play. I’ll publish the files and instructions soon to my lovely Patreons and publicly a few weeks later. Next is a couple of improvements and I’ve also (gasp) started the new design concepts for the 2-3-2 mechanism. This will take ...

The forum

Hi all, quick reminder if you’ve not seen it to join the 3dprinteddroid forum, Larry kindly set this up for discussion and support for all our builds. Obviously I’ll keep you updated on news and builds via the posts and OneDrive is the place for all the files but Patreon isn’t the easiest to search / reference for discussion so the forum is superb for the community to share experience and kn...

What’s next? Wadda ya want.

I’m going to continue with all the modules and developments but was wondering on everyone’s thought about introducing a practical start to designing stuff. I use Fusion not in the perfect CAD way but in a quick iterative kind of approach and wondered if a couple of videos may help people to design. I can step through a couple of parts for R2 to show how to do it. Just thinking of ways to rewa...

Optional Charge Port - Fixed and Retro parts available

OK, firstly apologies, I released the Charge port a little too early before I'd fully printed all the parts. Big thanks to Wayne for pointing it out, basically there's a magnet holder in the recess to hold the charge door shut however I didn't allow for the door and the magnet holder was flush with the "inner skin". This meant the door wouldn't close as it hit the magnet holder. Rather stupid of m...

**Opening Charge port changes**

Apologies, a modification will be needed on the opening charge port. The magnet holder needs recessing in the frame, I released the files before I test printed the door. Hold fire if you’ve not printed it, will fix in the next hour or so.

Opening Charge Port - Option for new builds.

I've added a folder in the main body with "mods & upgrades" in. I've added an opening charge port in this, it replaces MB-ring2-1 and MB-ring2-2. Obviously you can't retro fit and it would be extremely hard to create something that you could "dremel" out and fit but it's an option for new builds. Note, I've not completed the door, only the frame. The hinges are the same as the rest of the buil...

Tray is looking good

So a few revisions in, a few designs I wasn’t happy with and I think we’ve reached a tray that’s right. 3 top pieces, 2 bottom pieces. All modelled hollow for faster printing and less filament. Three part trays, top, middle and bottom. Files are in the wip under version 2 if you’d like to take a look. Happy printing,<br><br>Mike,

The Tray is revised!!

Hi, after quite a bit of research and some great reference from the builders club I'm revising the tray design for accuracy. This is the (hopefully) final design for the tray. One of the common issues is that the tray is flat and therefore drinks / boxes etc have to be fixed on (screwed etc). I plan to use 6mm round (10mm long) magnets around the centre ring to hold drinks (and potentially a box) ...

The drinks get closer and it's nearly Christmas...

The design continues, I've done the main details now, still some work to do but shaping up nicely. Happy printing, Mike.

Something from the bar...

First bit done, the support arms are finished. I'll have to do two to support the 18 degree 3 leg mode but happy with the first design! still loads to do on the bar top so watch this space!

Happy printing,

Mike

Externally complete and functional

R2 version two is fully assembled, working and actually delighted!! Couple of minor improvements, the 12v motors work but a a tiny bit underpowered. I suspect my battery isn’t great and I’m going to look at the drives to see if the ratio can be tweaked to add some torque. 24v motors are the same fittings so could update the electronics however he rolls, turns and works so more than happy for...

Magnetic printed hoses work!

Not glued (or put magnets in) but this really works :-)

View Post

Nearly there on the hoses

3d printed hoses work well! There I’ve said it. Basically the hoses are printed in Ninjaflex. They have a solid ABS core which holds the shape (slides in). The knurled screws hold via a magnetic latch to easy to remove or pull off. Love the design. Works well. There’s some nice gold flex filament which I think will weather superb!
Happy printing,

Mike,
