After some testing I’ve printed flexible braided battery hoses and fittings. Basically you have s flexible hose, a plastic inner (all printed) which keeps the shape. At the battery and foot end I’m making magnetic latches which connect the battery screws to the battery and foot alike. This means you can remove the hoses ( or if someone pulls them) there’s no damage and removable for transit....

Just catching up on some instructions. This is a quick one for attaching the centre leg. Fairly busy weekend, I've been experimenting with printed Battery Braided hoses, actually happy with the results. Printed in NinjaFlex (normal, not Cheetah for once). Finished the Battery Boxes and designed the Knurled screw things which hold the hoses either side. Finally created the cylinder for the Centre A...

Hi all, I've added the latest (and final) Battery Box designs and Foot Shells to the Fusion share, (Dedicated Patreons, $5+) you'll see a post with the link shortly, or the old link should be updated with these designs.
The STLs for the Battery Boxes will move from wip to the Patreon early bird share and then to the open share in a couple of weeks. I think I'm going to try a flex hose desi...

Thank you Dedicated supporters, here the links to the original R6 Dome Designs and the Foot Drives designs. Password is mrbaddeley
Any derivatives I'd appreciate if you'd reference the source, but if not, it's really not a problem, more important to share openly and freely :-)

Got the hang of this, I've added a couple of Fusion 360 designs to be shared with the Dedicated Supporters level (and above). The R6 Dome and the drive system. Obviously all files are shared freely and openly however for the dedicated supports here's the original Fusion 360 designs (warts and all). Great reference, allows tweaks / your own versions and reference if needed! I'll share the links in ...

The Interface arm has now moved from the wip folder to the main early bird Patreon folder, the instructions have also been published so we're ready to Rock'n'Roll. Have fun, happy printing and thanks again for being part of a lovely community!

Sooo.. Here's a little gift for you all. A unique R6 dome which fits the standard build (and will fit a more traditionally built Astromech (nearly typed R2 there!) It's all cut and ready to go in the "wip" folder in the Patreon early bird share. All the Greebles, Panels and main dome are done. I've done some new cut techniques for the top of the dome to make it much easier to print, loads of dovet...

I've done the first cut on the R6 dome. The lower and upper ring is simply the same part printed 6 times and fits together with a dovetail (again slight sanding may be needed depending on the tolerance of your printer). For the main dome I've cut into 9 parts with hole and peg fitting (as shown in the transparent part above). I have not done any test prints on the R6 Dome yet, but the STL files ar...

Test printed the fourth revision of the battery boxes. I’ve had to cut them to minimize warping. The curved areas combined with flats is a challenge but these seem to print fine. The only tweak I may make is on the ‘hooks’ which hold them onto the foot. I think they may be a little thick and need cutting to fit properly onto the shell when the drive mechanism is fitted. Also the interface ar...

Hey, here's the nearly finished design for the R6 Dome. I need to split / cut this for printing and add a couple of greebles, but wanted to share the progress and design. As always this will be in the Patreon Early Bird share first for a few weeks then moved to the open public folder. The R6 dome is relatively unusual so should make a great addition to your build. It will fit the Lazy Susan for V2...

I'm trialling sharing the Fusion360 designs to add more stuff for our "Dedicated Supporters" (and above). These are links to the original Fusion 360 designs. Initially I've put the Body and two cuts of the dome thinking this may be useful if you fancy tweaking or are learning Fusion 360. You should see a post with the links / passwords but let me know if you can't. I'll add more designs in the com...

I've added some more stuff for the Dedicated Supporters. I've put a few original Fusion 360 designs to be shared as a trial. Initially it's the body (quite a big design) and two cuts of R2 domes. I will add more if it's useful for you to reference, tweak or learn / do your own designs?

We’ve pretty much got a basic droid now. (Actually far from basic when you have moving holoprojectors, gripper arms, interface arms and utility arms. This means R2 has at least four arms! Never realised that before). Anyhow, finishing details. I have to complete the battery boxes ( the files work but I want to perfect them). Then I need to finish the electronic mounting, this was alway wip as I ...

Just a quick note on the flexible parts for version 2 mechanisms. I will update the instructions but I used Ninjaflex Cheetah for all flexible parts NOT just Ninjaflex. Cheetah is much more rigid and robust while the standard ninja flex is very flexible (too flexible) for drives / tyres etc. Cheetah is also much easier to feed / print on a standard setup (recommended settings on the ninjaflex webs...

OK, the first version worked, but the height will cause splitting / delamination so I've split the boxes into 4 prints which stack / glue to minimise warping and splitting. Also the front Battery Cable I've put a screw thread on so the knurled fitting will screw in. Stupidly I mirrored to get the right battery box which also mirrored the thread, so there's a left and right knurl now as I simply mi...

Finally finished the interface Arm, high tolerances but think it works! Publish this weekend at sometime (files are in the wip folder if you want a play). Recommend .1 layer height, high resolution is needed.

So the next release is the interface Arm. Just finished the design but need to modify the animation mechanism. Basically it will go in and out whilst rotating. The first design doesn't run smoothly so we're onto design two. Very happy with the look though. Primer, black and Rub'n'Buff is great.

Hi all! Want to share what looks like some great work by the wider Thingiverse community if you haven't seen it. Rorlin has released a couple of models for our dome (whilst a remix, they are not my work and I haven't tested them) however they look great.

OK, let's test the 360 share capabilities. Apparently you can share the design, make it downloadable and protect it with a password... So I've done all three for the dome design.
