Quick Blog Update

Just a quick update - I lost my cat of 17 years yesterday. It wasn't a surprise, and I can't even say that I feel like she was taken from me early. She got to live a long, fulfilled life, and I was blessed to have her with me, but it's meant I haven't particularly felt like writing as that has been approaching. I'll get back to it soon, but I figured I'd take a moment to share.

Augur Book 3, Ch 10

Finally getting around to some backstory that's probably long-overdue. This was a fun chapter to write, and I'm enjoying getting to spell out a little more about the core essence of what magic is.

Work, unfortunately, continues to be a beast. I have a little time off coming up in a month or so, and I'm hoping that will let me recharge a little, but until then the time and effort I would prefer to pour into writing is absorbed by capitalism.

Augur Book 3 Ch 6

A chapter that Cindy is in from the very beginning, but in which she doesn't speak a single word.

Part of what I wanted to do with this chapter was give a little more introduction to the dryads and how they perceive the world, but I also wanted to show how Jack is changing in response to his surroundings and the magic that's shaping him.

I feel like this chapter is exposition-heavy. I'll probably wind up doing some rewrites on this and other early chapters as I get deeper into the book, and that may include spreading some of this information out a little more, but in the meantime this is largely a lore-dump about a topic that was introduced in the very first chapter of Augur, but which never got much of a spotlight: Gifted.

This is a relatively short chapter, mostly meant to introduce and give some backstory on plot elements that will be explored in more depth later - setting the stage for more shenanigans with the nymphs and dryads, giving some more backstory of Chris and Jessie, and adding the necessary plot elements to make the bogeyman into one of the book's primary antagonists.

This ePub is missing the cover image (and is using the default Scrivener placeholder in the meantime) but is otherwise relatively complete. I've put in the commission for the Book 2 cover, but the artist is on vacation for the next couple weeks and I probably won't receive it until the first couple days of June. Still, I am very excited at how close the book is to release!

I'm going to try changing up the tempo of chapters and make them longer but less frequent. That should allow me to have a little bit more detail in some of the scenes later.

Augur Book 2: Editor's Pass Done!

There will be one more basic proofread pass just to ensure no typos slipped through (and there's no obvious continuity errors) but Augur Book 2 is now 99% of the way to finished.
