After our catch-up week, I'm back at it and today, we're gluing the table up. It's not complicated, but there is a bunch of prep-work and then I've got a couple of tricks that you might not have seen before.
We had to shoot this with our back-up camera (long story) so you might notice some differences in the sound and video. We'll have our normal camera back for our next ...

It's time to figure out how we're going to attach the top of our table. I'll run through a few options and then show you authentic, period correct pocket screws. (No, seriously; that's what we're doing and it's traditional.)
See you next week!

We're in the midst of launching Tool Trader to the whole world, and things are CRAZY in the shop. But Patrons always come first.
Today, I've got an exclusive behind-the-scenes on my newest project: the Chinese workbench. This bench may look like another Roman bench, but don't be fooled. This is a smaller and leaner bench that's built for Chinese tools. In this video, I'll g...

Sorry this post is a little late. Totally my fault.
Today, we're tapering the legs. It's an easy step and despite some power-tool noise in the background, I think the video came out rather well.
I hope you enjoy it!

One of our community members just got an email asking him to "update his payments" for Patreon, but he signed in and found that everything was in order. This was probably a scam.
If Patreon sends you any emails, it probably best not to click on any links in the email. Instead, sign in to your Patreon account in a new browser tab and have a look at your ac...

Things have still been a mess in the shop. We've got construction; we've got equipment coming in; it's pure chaos. We could fight it or we could embrace it, so we turned the whole disaster into a video just for Patrons. Join us for a good old shop-vlog. We'll show you a bunch of stuff we don't normally show on camera.
Happy Saturday!

Rob and I are back at it! Today, we're bending the rear posts for the Alexander Chair. We're using the steam box, the kiln, the Veritas Tenon-Cutter and many other fun contraptions. Like so many projects, this has been moving slow but it's picking up steam as we close in on the end.
As a reminder, my shop is getting a partial new roof next week and it's unlikely ...

Today, we're cutting tenons and it's not very complicated, especially with the period-correct method I'm going to show in this video.
Also, I'm about to have major roof repairs done to my shop. This is great news, since I have at least 4 major leaks already and we're heading into Winter. Unfortunately, I'm going to have carpenters in my workshop for at least a week...

Have you heard that you're not supposed to cut rabbets with a rabbet plane? Me too, and it never made much sense to me. I dug into this topic and it turns out you CAN cut rabbets with a rabbet plane. It's not that hard, although I admit I'm still learning these new skills. I need to practice, but I wanted to bring you these excellent techniques right away.
Also, do...

Have we really done 10 parts of this build? I guess so, because I have a bunch of wooden parts that look like a table. Sort of. More like a table kit.
Today is the Mistake Recovery edition of the build and I'm going to remove a lot of unnecessary waste very quickly and get this build back on track. At the end, we'll have 4 legs that are ready for tapering and joinery.

It's time to glue-up those leg pieces into leg blanks. The boards need to be prepped to eliminate gaps in the glue-up and then we're going to be face-gluing them. Glue is slippery and we'll need to deal with that as we keep all those pieces aligned.

Every shop needs a bench grinder. These versatile tools can reshape steel, grind tools, clean off rust, and even shorten bolts and screws. Lots of die-hard hand tool woodworkers (like me) still have an electric grinder for shaping the bevels on chisels and plane irons.
