Friends:

I need a week to catch up on the Shaker table but I still have a video for you with a few fun things to share.

More actual progress next week.

Yeah... smallness/lightness is a virtue when my "workbench" is outdoors under a porch! Being able to carry a bench in and out of the shed in 5 min or less, and get to work, is a real advantage. I built your Roman bench with a full 8' length when we lived in a different location, and it was great for that place (aside from the week that hornets decided "hey, we were here first! [they weren't]"). Now that we live somewhere else... smaller/leaner would be a better fit for both storage... and starting work on a project quickly. I'm also thinking about building a "Dutch-style" tool chest with a slant top, instead of the Anarchist's Tool Chest... the Dutch style seems more portable, more in line with the "Woodworking for humans" that I already do... and I've already outgrown my six board chest (from your plans) and my tool tote (from you). So... that's another project for you to do in the Woodworking for Humans series, you know? How to upgrade from 6-board and tool-tote style to carcase work... (hint hint!)

I admit, I prefer to work standing up, but people need options and the flexibility of the Chinese bench is hard to beat. As you say, it's also really small.

Rex Krueger

That's a super nice and helpful thing to say. I appreciate that so much!

I have. I think overwork is just a feature of this business. You need a lot of irons in the fire to make it all work. Today, I'm taking 3 massive boxes of Vise Blocks to FedEx. Then I have to rent a truck for something next week.

Rex Krueger

Outstanding! We'll have more Alexander Chair this weekend and the Chinese workbench will be ready next weekend. Both videos are "in the can" as we say in my business. It's just editing, voiceover, color-correction, noise reduction....and on and on.

Rex Krueger

You can do it! Catch up to me. I'm going so slowly!

YouTube is probably having issues with bots and trying to put in a Captcha. I don't think it's patreon, but I could be wrong. We'll keep an eye on this.

Rex Krueger

Rex, does anyone else in the community get a screen that says "Sign in to confirm you're not a bot" and when you click on the "Learn more" it does nothing and if you click on the arrow button it takes you to YouTube? Just asking as this has happened several times on this account and some of the others that I follow. Hope you have a great week ahead.

Matt Evans-Koch

Rex, thanks for giving me an extra week to try to catch up. well... maybe not all the way up... ;)

You have made amazing progress, sorry you are feeling stressed! I am eagerly looking forward to seeing the Chinese workbench, conclusion of the Shaker Table, and more of the Jennie Alexander Chair!

Alexander May

you have been definitely spreading yourself kind of thin with all you have going on.

joseph severson

Take your time, Rex. You've honored your commitment all this time. I can wait a little bit.

I’m looking forward to the Chinese bench build, myself. I like shaker furniture but it’s not my preferred style. On the other hand, having a smaller and more portable low bench would be a great improvement on the monster Roman I have now. Although ironically I’d do better with a standing bench, given my tool-set at this point… I just have nowhere to put it. Anyway, catch up and we’ll see the work soon!
