Time for another Metabombed article, because 2K Games is rubbish and deserves it!

It feels a little mean to post this, kicking a studio while it's down, but it's not like it's untrue. So here we go, with your ol' pal Jim Sterling's thoughts on the company Telltale Games became before it announced its bankruptcy.
Telltale tried to do too much while not doing enough. Let's take a look at it!

Underhero is a fun platforming RPG that puts players in the boots of a faceless mook attempting to subvert his evil overlord. It's quite good indeed!

We've somehow made it to 200 episodes of this weekly gibberish! We raise a glass of Fantarito and Cyberpunk beer, we go round the twist, we reminisce, and we talk about some of our favorite games of the past four years.

This came out around the same time Nintendo started charging for online play, and while the blame's on Capcom, the fact this was promoted in a Nintendo Direct makes the timing absolutely awful.
At least on Switch, the Capcom Beat 'Em Up Bundle is an online disaster.

Nintendo is a ridiculous company that cannot simply do something simple. There's always a complication, a caveat, a catch. Even cloud saving, which every other platform has nailed, must be subject to Nintendo's arcane rulings.
So, cloud saves will only work for SOME Nintendo Switch games, not ALL of them. The ones excluded are pretty heavy hitters too. Looks like another Nintendo Move to m...

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is fine. It's simply okay, in a mundane way. While the previous games in the "reboot" continuity were great action adventures, this is predominantly a swimming simulator with a boring plot and dull backdrop.
Also, the direction this game takes, with its lacking combat and focus on restrictive exploration, is a little baffling.

2K Games has called premium currency and microtransactions an "unfortunate reality" in gaming.
Overwatch and NBA 2K19 had to remove loot boxes in Belgium. EA refuses to remove loot boxes from FIFA. The "AAA" excuses and justifications are flying thick and fast, and 2K especially is showing its royal rump.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age is pretty good. Square Enix have put out a pretty good JRPG that, shockingly, doesn't need to reinvent itself with every sequel.
While I'm not quite as in love with it as some critics, I do enjoy it a lot. Like most DQ games, it's simply a pleasant ride.

The Duke is back! Amiel H'ardcore reads some lovely hate mail from a Shenmue lover who won't stand by while someone criticizes the Dreamcast masterpiece!
Seriously, don't mess with someone who has 100 Platinum Trophies and is probably good at Bloodborne!

On this week's episode, we talk about Spider-Man, and Laura's played some interesting games around London Town. Also, Gav is The Mistered Bright Sides.

Perhaps the best Spider-Man game yet made, Marvel's Spider-Man feels terrific to play and has a near-flawless combat system. Just a shame about the open world busywork tasks and lack of villains.
Still, Insomniac made a bloody fine game!

Oh, Ubisoft! Europe's EA equivalent has split The Division 2 across six special editions, a recurring habit of a company desperate to make all of the money in the world.
But how does Ubisoft's promise of free updates mesh with DLC, season passes, and half a dozen special editions? Awkwardly, friends. Awkwardly.

Donut County, a charming little puzzle game with a dorky sense of humor, is a short but sweet little jaunt.

If this video were comprehensive, we'd be here all week. Instead, let Street Fighter from Street Fighter tell you how game companies have set about slicing fighting games apart to make more cash from an audience they've secured leverage over.
From SoulCalibur VI to Mortal Kombat, everyone is here!

Shenmue was rereleased this week. It should have been remastered because even for its time, this "bold" game takes serious liberties.

A now former IGN editor was caught plagiarizing a review of Dead Cells and got canned for it. That's where the story should have ended.
Instead, Filip Miucin couldn't help making it worse for himself, and encouraged the world to uncover an entire career built off the stolen work of other people. What a tit.

2018-08-16 13:23:22 +0000 UTC View Post
The utter state We Happy Few was released in is unbelievable. Despite a successful Kickstarter, Gearbox support, and years of development, this mess should never have left Early Access.
Nothing short of a mega patch will fix everything truly messed up about this game. If you can imagine a game bug, any game bug, We Happy Few probably has it.
