#mapvember2018 3/30: Mirror Maze

A strange crystalline growth has started to take over landscapes at an accelerating rate. The growth has a silvery-white reflective surface, and its edges are incredibly sharp. When near a "mirror maze," people start experiencing auditory hallucinations that resemble incomprehensible whispering voices. The growth seems to originate from underground sources near the comet fragment impact sites.<...

#Mapvember2018 1/30: Run to the Hills

Catching up with my #mapvember maps. I decided to try making anything but fantasy maps this #mapvember since all my maps last year were fantasy dungeons. So, around thirty sci-fi, modern and post-apocalyptic maps coming up 😉

This map has an old abandoned landing pad on top of a steep hill. It could be an evacuation spot or just higher ground that's easier to defend against forces or crea...

The Troll Bridge

Some time ago we played D&D and there was an encounter with two trolls. The trolls came out of nowhere with no apparent plan or motivation. This kind of bothered me, so I decided to do a map for this kind of encounters.

In this map there's a bridge and a small cave under it, where the trolls keep their lair and stow their prey and loot.

I also tested how a watercolor...

ZT3300 Light Freighter

ZT3300 Light Freighter is a highly modular cargo ship that can carry larger cargo modules in addition to its small internal cargo hold.

This ship is fitted with a small crew module on the left front section and an escape pod on the left lower section next to the engineering. The main module on the right front section also works as a detachable emergency vehicle.

Draft: The Troll Bridge

A while ago we played D&D with my regular group and there was a random encounter. Two trolls attacked the caravan. After that session I was kind of frustrated by the fact how the trolls just appeared from nowhere, so I wanted to do a map that fits this kind of encounters.

There's a bridge and the trolls live in a cave under the bridge. The trolls ambush travelers when they are c...

The Well of Horrors

In the woods close to a small town, there is a temple of a small, but fast-growing cult. The cult has made its home in a gnomish workshop that was abandoned a long time ago. What happened to the gnomes, nobody knows or remembers anymore.

Testing printed map sections

Testing out a printed section of my upcoming map. The original was not drawn with a grid, so it doesn't quite match, but works well enough IMHO. I need to give this a try soon with a map drawn on a grid. The grid is 1" and the resolution fits virtual tabletop use as well.

WIP: The Lair of the Well-Dwelling Horror

The well-dwelling monster's lair got some details. Next up scanning, details, colors, and textures. Let's see if I can get this done today...

There will be a well at the end of the long hall and an underground pond under it and there lurks a horrible slimy eel-like aberration that has just woken from a long hibernation and it's collecting a cult around it with its telepathic powers....

Strongholds & Followers Teaser

Here's a small slice of a map I did for the Strongholds & Followers by Matt Colville. I'm so happy about this opportunity, which I nearly passed. I have learned so much and had a lot of practice in such a short time while making these maps. I'm pretty sure I have gained a level or two in Cartographer while completing this side quest ':D

The Tomb of Nihalar

The Tomb of Nihalar is a pyramid hidden in the jungle. It has the main level and a lower catacomb level with hidden caves. There's also a camp outside the pyramid. Could it be a group of scholars... or tomb raiders, perhaps?

This is the first Map of the Month and also the first fully digital map published on Patreon by yours truly. I ran into some issues in my private life this month and ...

Special Freebie: World of Tora

I found a thing! I was going through boxes filled with my old drawings and RPG stuff and I came across these maps. These are scans of a fantasy world map I did sometime around 1999 or 2000. I even made a weathered looking handout version of the map, and one showing the racial demographics of each area (humans are blue, elves green and goblinoids red, etc.)

I started working on this ...

The Mansion of Horrors

I did this mansion with caverns underneath it about a year ago for Geek & Sundry's Dread show. I remember struggling with the house layout as it is something from this world and it was difficult to make it exciting and surprising. But now, when looking at it again after a while, it's not that bad at all 😅 or what do you think?

Crashlanding: Sensor Readings

A Corvus-Class HX-50 Light Freighter has crashlanded. Initial sensor readings have some good and bad news. Lifesigns are detected, but the reactor core is going critical any minute now. Your crew needs to hurry to get the operation done before any survivors and the ship's valuable data is vaporized.

This map comes with a bunch of different versions. Besides the versions with d...

The Azure Bastion

The Azure Bastion was once an important coastal fortress keeping an eye on a narrow passage on a peninsula leading to the properous harbor city of King's Bay. But the great Spellquake changed everything.

Landmasses shook and churned in ways never seen before. Islands, even whole continents, sunk in the oceans over night. Mountains were torn from the ground and floated high ...

Crashlanding WIP

I finally got my laptop's stylus working correctly on Photoshop. Here's what I did on the bus back home from work. This is still very much a work in progress, but drawing digitally seems to have a lot of potential and allows me to make color maps much faster (read: more color maps!) More progress pics to follow.

As the adventurers travel carefully through the caverns, they end up in a small glade with a small pond in the middle of it. Everything is silent. All too silent...
