I have briefly mentioned about a commission I've been working on lately, and I'm excited to share a small sneak preview with you.
I did these maps for the Strongholds & Followers 5th Edition sourcebook by Matt Colville and MCDM Productions. I must say that I feel very honored to be one of the cartographers working on this supplement and this opportunity inspired me to push my standards to the next level.
But making these maps had an unexpected effect on meme as a RPG cartographer.
After making these maps I had the confidence to decide that I'm ready to work prominently with digital tools (while still drawing all the lines by hand). I have found working with drawing tablets and other digital tools previously frustrating and time consuming, but now I finally got familiar enough with digital tools to have them as my main approach to making maps. This allows me to fix mistakes easier and use various methods to make my work more efficient. In practice, this means higher quality maps with colors and better options for virtual tabletops, player handouts, etc.
Of course, digitally drawn and colored/textured maps will look a bit different from my previous maps, but I will still do my black & white shaded maps every now and then. And don't forget that #mapvember is coming soon... stay tuned to learn more about that in a few weeks ;)
Cheers,
Miska
