New [demonetized] Video!

Hi everyone! Sorry for the slow production cycle...but here is our first 2019 video! It is a critique of one of the most common rhetorical arguments I see in discussions about religion...the No True Scotsman Fallacy. Hope you enjoy.

As an aside, this video was demonetized within minutes of posting. I'm really not sure why...maybe because I mention the Buddhist radical Ashin Wirathu?...

RFB partners with Northeastern University to produce 3 vids!

I can now announce a really cool partnership that has been in the works for a few months! Northeastern University houses a public religion think tank called Sacred Writes which trains scholars of religion on how to share their research with the general public. They fund scholars to partner with media outlets such as the Religion News Service to write op-eds and essays, but I felt Religion for B...

Week-in-Review: Baha'i Video Coming Monday

Hi everyone. I'm not going to lie...this week was one of the busiest weeks of my academic life, and I'm barely keeping up with my work. I have 18 papers to grade, daily grind work to do for The Atlantic, and near-endless meetings to attend before the end of the semester. Because of this, my YouTube schedule has slipped, and I apologize for that.

1). Baha'i video: I have a video ...

Week-In-Review: Shintoism up next and Flying to Denver!

Videos: I've been hard at work on November videos. I've just finished recording a video on Shintoism's influence on Pokémon, due out for next week. The Sikhism video is slowly being completed, but if I don't finish it in time for November, I have a vide on the Museum of the Bible as a back-up. I've also started the script for the Zoroastrianism video that you all voted on a few w...

Cameo on Alliterative's video on etymology of magic

Hi everyone! I'm friends with the academics behind the YouTube channel Alliterative, which focuses mostly on linguistics and etymology. Their Halloween special is on the etymology of the word "magic," and I make a cameo in the first few minutes of the video. Check it out!: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LPNpE0X3Bkw View Post

Updates: Hell vid almost done. Wrote an article for The Atlantic.

Hi everyone! Just an update on my October. The History of Hell video is bearing completion! It has been a fascinating project from the start and I am excited to share it with you.

You also might be interested to read an article I wrote for The Atlantic concerning the Museum of the Bible in DC. Basically it was revealed on Monday that 5 of their 16 Dead Sea Scrolls fragments are fakes (and ...

Boston University newspaper wrote an article about me

Random post. My school's newspaper interviewed me a few months ago, and the article has finally been published. Its short and a little cringey sometimes...but it was my first experience being interviewed by the press!: http://www.bu.edu/today/2018/religion-for-breakfast-on-youtube/

Intro to Sikhism video drops this month

A year ago, I filmed a video with Dr. Simran Jeet Singh on Sikhism. It has been sitting on my hard drive collecting dust because I was having a hell of a time trying to find b-roll footage and images depicting the information that we discuss. I finally got back to editing this project, and it should be ready to post this month! Simran is finalizing the draft as I type this.

What Video Topic Should I Do For Halloween?

Halloween is only a month away, and I happen to specialize in some pretty intense research (demons and magic). I was going to publish a video on the history of the theology of Hell...but then I started thinking I should do something more along the lines of demonology. I can't decide. If you vote for a demonology topic, write a suggestion too!

Why Strict Religions Succeed

Hi everyone. Here is my latest video (published yesterday). I had a lot of fun writing and researching this episode. The research is at the center of so many disciplines (sociology, behavioral psychology, cognitive studies), and a lot of it was new to me. Expect a sequel in the coming months where I talk about the health effects of living in a strict religious community. I hope you enjoy.

Livestream on Sunday!

Hi everyone! The new semester is about to begin, and I am SO not ready for it. This semester I'm teaching 1 class at Boston University, "Magic in the Ancient World." I'm also designing online courses for the Religious Freedom Center in Washington DC. I'm trying to finish my dissertation, AND I have twice-monthly videos planned between now and January 1st. I'll probably be pulling 60-hour work week...

Mandaeism, Manichaeism, or Zoroastrianism?

These three religions are among the most requested topics in the comments. I have a very busy video schedule planned between now and December, so I don't have time to do all three of these this semester...BUT, I want to cover at least one of these topics on the channel before December. Which one should I make a video about??

Masada video!

Hi everyone, here is my latest video...an overview of the Siege of Masada, a major event in Jewish history. I shot all of the video footage on my visit to the site back in March.

As an aside, thank you everyone for your support. This video was immediately demonetized (even after manual review). I'm assuming because of the topic (mass suicide). This channel would never survive on ad revenue...

July video needs to be delayed

Hi everyone. As you all know, I generally post two videos per month. I've been rushing to finish the second video for July to be released today, and I just need to scrap it. The video's quality is  way below the standards I have come to expect from myself for this channel. I'll strive to post 3 videos in August to make up for this, so you can expect a video for late next week.

Thanks ...
