Week-in-Review: Denver for American Academy of Religion!

Academic Conference: I'm in Denver for the American Academy of Religion. I moderated a panel on public scholarship and religious studies yesterday, and Monday night I will be presenting some of my dissertation research on magical inscriptions in late antique Syria. Should be fun! If you're interested, follow me on Twitter @andrewmarkhenry as I will be updating that frequently this weekend. This is one of the largest academic conferences in the world...partly because scholars from every subfield within religious studies (Biblical archaeology, Buddhist literature, cognitive science of religion, and everything in between) attends this conference. Approximately 10,000 scholars and graduate students attend.

Videos: I published a video on Shintoism and Pokémon on Wednesday, I hope you got a chance to check it out! I'm a big Pokémon and Japanese religion nerd, so this video was a lot of fun to make. There were at least 10 other Pokémon I could have mentioned, but I figured the video would be boring if I just kept listing Pokémon inspired by kami and yokai.

Interview with State Dept: I have been invited to be interviewed by the American Center in Jerusalem, a public diplomacy wing of the US State Department there where I will talk about religious literacy and religious freedom in the United States. I will be in dialogue with an Israeli scholar who is an expert on religious freedom issues in Israel. The talk will be live-streamed on Facebook, so I will try to post a link to you all when I go live.
