Chapter 10 - Wu Ying
Five ascendants, hair tied up and hairpins carefully in place. He noted the cut and type of dress, the stylized animals on their embroidered robes and, most importantly, the swords that they wore. Each on the pommel carried a simple insignia upon them, the one for the kingdom of Qin. A powerful kingdom, one to the north and east of the old kingdom of Cai whose half-...

Going to write a post about how long it takes to write a book, just because I’ve been thinking about it.
Drafting
How fast I write varies on a day-to-day basis, depending on voice, complexity of the project, type of project and the POV I write it in. For my bigger projects like A Thousand Li, I figure calling it around 500 words an hour on average is corr...

Chapter 9 - Yang Mu
It would have been simpler if they had allowed her to leave in silence, without the drama and the pageantry that was demanded. If they clans had been willing to close their eyes and look aside, to allow her to depart with their gifts and good memories rather than be forced to undergo another long, ritualized departure, one filled with false words and promises of alli...

Chapter 8 - Wu Ying
The dining hall was massive, the columns gilded with gold and carved from colourful grey and yellow marble. The pillars soared all the way to the high ceilings where the (__) joists held the roofs aloft and managed the minor sway of the building as it blew and shifted on the cloudy surface below.
Scattered round tables, made of beautiful dark wood and fi...

Just came back from World Fantasy Con in Niagara Falls, USA. I have to admit, the main reason I went was because it was in Niagara Falls, and thus a few hours drive away from me. Made it simpler to get to and meant that on Sunday, when I called it a day and drove home, it took me only 2 hours to get back.
That's... bleeding amazing really. Only way it could have been better if it was in T...

Chapter 7 - Wu Ying
The door to his room swung open, without warning, without invitation. He met the entrant with his sword drawn, tip pointed at their throat, light on the ball of his toes and the wind at his beckoning. His unwanted guest looked down the tip of the weapon with a single raised eyebrow, a smirk of amusement lingering on their lips.
Very beautiful lips too. La...

Chapter 5 - Yang Mu
The august Silver Merchant, she of abundant contacts, trade routes and connections and from whose fingers flowed the bounty of multiple kingdoms tried to stifle a sigh that threatened to escape her lips, the third in as many hours.
Yang Mu enjoyed being feted and dined, unlike her lover – former now, perhaps, though that was a wound so fresh that it sti...

Chapter 4 - Wu Ying
As Guardian Chu rode away from the gate with his troops, returning to his regular patrols around the massive Heavenly Palace complex, Minister Yu cocked her head to the side, regarding Wu Ying. He felt a flicker of pressure, like a warm cloud pressing upon his aura and spirit itself before it disappeared. Unlike Guardian Chu's incisive scan of him, hers was faster an...

Thought this might be of interest to people, since many people want to know how Kickstarters work and it's a nice little glimpse into the backend. This is for the second Kickstarter, which earned less than the first; but only by a small amount.
Chapter 3 - Wu Ying
The escort brought Wu Ying to the palatial gates which were propped open, a pair of gate guards standing watch over the entrance. The walls of the gates were thrice as a tall as a man, clay tiles laid against the tops to allow for easy run-off. Each of them were four feet deep, enchantments scripted all along the stones to reinforce and apply the dao concept of walls...

Chapter 2 - Wu Ying
Golden buildings with extensive walled compounds and soaring towers, sloped roofs that jutted up to the sky to cast aside falling evil spirits and numerous carvings of powerful spirits all alongside them. Unlike in the mortal realm where such carvings were mostly for show, these Wu Ying could tell were either enchanted to host the essence of the spirits to offer addi...

There are a number of updates with regard to the A Thousand Li (ATL) Sequel which I'm hoping most of you will enjoy. By now, you've all read the ending of the Fourth Wall. It came out a little more bittersweet than I expected. You'll actually get an exclusive peek at the original ending that I wrote in case I died before I finished the book.
I'll probably write one of those for the ATL Se...

Especially since I have a cold (yes, I'll test for Covid in a bit, but there was yellow phlegm coming out so probably just a bacterial cold). Anyway, updates!

This is the alternative ending to book 12 - The Fourth Wall that I wrote awhile back in case I died before finishing the series.
Wu Ying stood on the mountain top, gusts of wind catching his robes. He drew a deep breath, tasting the crisp, cold air of the high altitude, the touch of dew on his skin as the dawn sun rose. Below his feet, the edges of clouds crowded the mount...
