Fool's Last Dance - System Apocalypse: Kismet Launch

So, Fool's Last Dance has launched. David R. Packer wrote the story, with only minor help from me (mostly acting as world regulator and dev editor). It's very light LitRPG, even if it's in a crunchy, hard magic system.

As always, the co-authors added something to the canon of the universe, added another thread to the worlds. In this case, book 3 outlines some of the things that happened while John left BC after doing his bull in a china shop act.

For everything that John Lee is, he's not a builder.

And that's what Fool and Jackal are, in many ways. They might bumble around, end up completing quests more by luck and the occassional smart idea than actual planning, but their goal - the entire goal of the Foundation - is to build up civilization.

At the same time, David's own experiences - being older, wiser, more weathered - than many other authors shine through in the series. It's one of the aspects that I love, along with the camaderie between the two and aspects of found family.

A lot of the trilogy is about regrets and second chances, of finding happiness and acceptance in the System. For Fool & Jackal, they embrace the System, what it can offer for those who the old had left behind, had discarded.

It's not your usual fare for LitRPG readers, it's not about power and punching people in the face, so much as a story of hope, and second chances, and I'm really happy to see the series finished in a spectacular manner.
