Patreon Update - The A Thousand Li Sequel Title and More!
Added 2024-09-11 16:00:02 +0000 UTCThere are a number of updates with regard to the A Thousand Li (ATL) Sequel which I'm hoping most of you will enjoy. By now, you've all read the ending of the Fourth Wall. It came out a little more bittersweet than I expected. You'll actually get an exclusive peek at the original ending that I wrote in case I died before I finished the book.
I'll probably write one of those for the ATL Sequel too.
Now, without further ado, the ATL Sequel will be called....
Celestial Cataclysms
As you can guess from the title, there's going to be quite a few changes in the cosmos in this series. It will be significantly less progression fantasy based and more epic fantasy, with time given to not just Wu Ying but some familiar characters from the ATL universe. Because of, I expect chapters to be significantly larger than previous works.
I am uncertain if I'll continue to split chapters into short scenes, or make each chapter a series of related scenes; but in either case, this is a major shift to a more epic fantasy feel.
There's also added difficulties, what with this both being the first book in a series and a sequel to a new series, as I'll have to balance both explanations and descriptions to both draw people in and not overburden them with concepts. I expect I'll end up doing quite a bit of rewriting in this work, just trying to get it to work right.
All of which is a long way of saying, I'm not sure when I'll be able to post the first chapter. I want to have a chance to look over it a bit, and because it took so long to write and deal with the edits for ATL 12 and other things, I'm a little behind where I wanted to be.
I'm also, frankly, quite tired. I've written nearly half a million words already this year, which is 2/3 to 3/4 of my usual volume (I write around 600-700k words most years). Because of this, and the lack of a proper holiday this summer (so far), after WorldCon I'll be having a holiday and then, a short break at home before I'm off to DragonCon. I don't expect a lot of work to get written during that time and won't be pushing for it.
All of which means I will be holding off on posting new chapters for the sequel till October. You're welcome to take a break (of course); though as always, if you don't, I do appreciate the support. I'm trying not to burn out too badly, thus the slow down and delay in posting.
Oooh, one last thing.
The name of the first book of Celestial Cataclysms is Immortal Connections.

Thanks, John! I think you'll enjoy the sequel, it's very much an expansion on the world; bringing in things that we don't get to see with a much larger scope of the world. I expect books will be chunkier too, but we shall see. I haven't written it, so we shall have to see!

2024-09-23 17:58:59 +0000 UTCI am very much looking forward to the sequel but also a bit sad at the ending of ATL. I know stories must have endings but A Thousand Li was one of my first proper forays into the progression/LITRPG genre and it set the standard to which I held all other books after.
