Just one day after my Fat to Fit trek, I set off towards the Pensi La pass. I still had some food left, and I stocked up on some Tsampa at Rangdum and went to spend a couple of blissful days camping at the pass.

Another 6 months in lockdown was not very kind to my health. So I decided to get fit by the only way I know how. Hiking in the mountains while visiting some remote villages along the way. This time I choose to visit Dipling which in my opinion is the most remote village in Ladakh. It was an introductory visit to get to know the village and its people. I'am hoping t...

Dear All,
Due to a recent mandate by the Reserve Bank of India, recurring payments are blocked for Indian Credit Card holders on overseas websites like Patreon. As a result many of you would have had your transactions declined today.
I was caught unawares by this issue until a few of you messaged me and brought it to my notice. Please give me a few days to do some research on this...

I sat with Ven.Thupstan Palden to talk about Mask Dances and their symbolism in Tibetan Buddhism. I'am very grateful to Gyen Palden La for his detailed explanation of the topic and my friends in Leh who helped me translate his words of wisdom.
I have a few more interviews explaining a few different mask dances. But I do not have sufficient footage for certain dances like the Black H...

This is my last video from the Phukthar Monastery. The Monlam festival was without doubt the highlight of my stay at Phukthar. The chanting especially was so moving. I would spend my afternoons sitting above the courtyard, listening to the chanting. It was so peaceful. And even now, listening to these chants takes me back to that happy place.

At over 22 minutes, this is the longest video that I've ever made. Usually I try to keep my videos at around 10 minutes, but there was so much to cover here that I was generous with the time. Will be interesting to see how this video does on Youtube.
The time I spent at the monastery was, without exaggeration, magical. And these novices played a huge part in making me feel at home at the ...

A taste of what life is like at the Phukthar Monastery, especially during these pandemic times. I took a break from narrating this video and told the entire story in the words of Lama Dawa from Phukthar.
Let me know how you like it. Personally I always enjoy making videos where I do not have to narrate. But narration is necessary most of the time to fill in the missing details of the stor...

Hi All,
I'am currently making a video about my frostbite experience in Zanskar. It is one of those long rambling videos I make at the end of my regular series.
Anyway, I was wondering if some of you have any suggestions for the video, or questions that you like answered? Leave a comment below and I would try to address them if I can.
Cheers,
Saravana

The Lungnak valley is the most remote and hard to reach region of Zanskar. Especially during winters. I was lucky enough to travel to the Phukthar monastery in Lungnak this winter. But leaving Lungnak and getting back to Padum was a whole different adventure.

The second video from the Zanskar series is out.
It is the story of how I went into the mountains above the Stongde monastery to document a yearly Yak roundup. The trip didn't go as well as I planned, mainly due to my lack of fitness and me getting frostbitten while camping up in the mountains.

Affectionately known as Achoo Tong Tong or Pischu Tong Tong , he is probably the most recognisable face from Zanskar. All thanks to the traditional hat that he wears all year around.
.
'Tong Tong' if you haven't guessed already refers to the wearer of the hat!
.
It is an interesting name but not as interesting as his real name - Thukje Gyatso.
.

Hello everyone. First of all, apologies for the long silence and the lack of updates over the past few months. I just returned home to Chennai after a long winter in the remote reaches of Zanskar.
It was an interesting trip. Full off unexpected twists and turns. I had low expectations when I went to Ladakh last December. Most of the places I regularly visit (Changthang etc) were out...

I came across this beautiful song about Spiti a few weeks back and immediately knew that I had to use it in one of my videos. I started off with the idea of making a narrative video about Spiti. Talking about its landscape, people and their customs etc. But when I began working on it, I realized that the local people will not enjoy such a video and that I have already covered most of the detail...

This the is video I wanted to make for a long time but could not find the right words to say. Finally managed to do it during this lockdown.
Btw, for those curious. I wrote about Downshifting a few years after I quit my job. When I was working on Kettik and before I discovered Timelapse photography. So this video is kind of a follow up to that.

Just uploaded new video about Tsampa. The roasted barley flour which is the staple food in the Himalayas. It is a great food for camping and I have been eating it on my trips for the last 5 years.
This video is the first in a new series about hiking and camping. Let me know if there is any particular video you would like to see on this topic and I will consider making it.

The Matho Nagrang is a very unique festival in Ladakh. Unlike other festivals which focus only on the Mask dances, the Nagrang festival is related to 2 Oracles who channel the spirit of the local deity through their bodies and give predictions for the coming year.
