Winter Games of Pin Valley, Spiti
The Dachang games of #Pin #Valley.
Episode #3 is now on YouTube. I don't think this will be as interesting as the previous 2 episodes. But the story needed to be told nonetheless.

Took a long time to make this one. Was in kind of a funk ever since I reached Manali 3 weeks back. Hopefully this breaks the funk and I'll be more productive with my videos going forward.
I'm off to Kinnaur right now to have a Shepherd's Reunion!
Finally gotten around to telling the story I've been meaning to tell for the last couple of years. The story of Todnam. The little village with a big heart.

Religion plays an important role in the lives of the Changpas. They are devout buddhists, all of them. But while Buddhism preaches non-violence towards all living creatures, the Changpas raise their animals to be killed and sold off for meat.
So their lives are bit of a paradox and in this episode we will see how the Changpas try and balance these 2 aspects of their lives through prayer...
This episode we get to understand the life of the Changpas. The semi-nomadic tribe of shepherds and yak herders living in Changthang. The high altitude plains of Ladakh and Tibet.

Hi everyone,
I just uploaded the first episode of my new series. Living with the Changpas.
I spent 3 weeks living with the Changpa shepherds this winter. Changpas are a semi nomadic tribe who live in the high altitude Northern plains of Tibet and China. I was always fascinated with them and decided to make a video series about their lives.
In this first episode we get to me...
I returned to Leh last evening after spending 20 days with the Changpa nomads at the Tsokar lake. Stay tuned for a new video series about the Changpas.
There were a lot of messages to catch up on after 20 days in the wild. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that my film 'A Shepherd's Journey' had received the Sierra Nevada Award at the Mountain Film Festival. Now I don't know much ab...
Hopefully this sets the benchmark for future videos. Please turn on subtitles if your hindi is not good, like mine.

A timelapse video is a series of individual photos assembled together to form the video clip. The question is whether you should shoot those photos in the JPG or RAW format?

Every year, for 5 days in September, the people of Nesang lock up their homes and go to the mountains to celebrate their Fulaich festival. Five days of music and dancing. More fun than I have ever seen in any festival before. This is my humble attempt to document the festival. My tribute to the lovely people of Nesang who make me feel at home every time I visit their village.

The Dakraine is an annual festival held across many of the villages in Kinnaur. And the Dakraine festival at Pangi is the most famous Dakraine of them all.
This is my first attempt at making a documentary style video. I've been wanting to make such videos for a long time but getting the interviews was always my achilles heel.
Even here, I managed to get the interview 2 months after ...
Sorry for no new videos in the recent past. I was in Pin Valley documenting their Pea Harvest. I returned to Rekong Peo a few days back meaning to upload the video. But unfortunately couldn't do that owing to a bad cold and fever. I'm on the way back to Pin Valley now. Planning to walk with the Gaddi shepherds once again across the Rupi - Khamba pass to the Rupi valley. It should be interesting.

This is the start of my new series called Fulak. Fulak refers to the upper region of Pin Valley consisting of the Sagnam, Khar, Todnum, Tailing and Mud villages. I have been spending a lot of time in this region since this January. My goal is to spend an entire year in the region and make a documentary film about the lives of the people living there. So this Fulak series on YouTube is a part of t...

I wanted to do this for a very long time. To walk with a group of Gaddi shepherds as they migrate across high mountain passes in search of pastures for their herds of sheep a goat. The majority of the trip went as planned. But I'm disappointed that I did not get any interviews or soundbites from the shepherds to use in my video. This has been one of my constant weaknesses in the past year. I real...

I ended up in Todnam last winter after a freak april snowstorm buried my tent and I took refuge in the village. What I found there was so fascinating that I decided to return this winter and try to document the lives of these people.
This series will be long one, as I keep returning to Todnam at various points throughout the year to document l...
2018-02-20 18:06:04 +0000 UTC View PostIt has been a very long break in between my updates. Sorry about that! But I’m back now with a new series of videos from Spiti. There will be a few different types of videos this time. In Snow Leopard Country is basically a Vlog series of me venturing into the mountains and valleys of Spiti looking for the Snow Leopard.
Life in Todnam would be another series showcasing the lives of the people ...
2018-02-18 05:12:44 +0000 UTC View PostThe first episode in my new series. Autumn in Kinnaur. Be warned though that the audio is a bit bad with lots of distortion in high volume. I was in a rush to edit and upload the video that I missed such a simple thing. I’m traveling again now. So it will take a week or so for me to correct the audio and upload a new version of the video. In the meantime you’ll have to make do with this slight...

Personally for me, mornings are the most difficult time of the day to capture time-lapse videos in the mountains. Getting up early is never the issue, but leaving the cozy warm confines of your sleeping bag takes a lot of effort and willpower.
My routine is always to get up in the morning, open my tent and take a peek outside while still inside my sleeping bag. I would get out of my sleepi...

Recently (a couple of months back actually) your contributions crossed 200$ per month. Honestly, achieving this goal seemed very far away when I started my Patreon page and I'am absolutely delighted to hit this target in such a short period of time.
It is worth mentioning again that your support is what keeps me going on my journey towards becoming a travel/documentary f...

My first trip out of Leh was to the Puga Hotsprings. Puga is located in the Changthang (High Altitude Plains) area of Ladakh. It is one of the coldest places in Ladakh but not as remote or extreme like Tsomoriri or Tsokar. So I wanted to experience winter camping in Puga before going to camp in the more extreme places.
