I have added the ramps, so now your guys can load up their ships or just mount an attack on the docks :-)

I am very happy how this month turned out and I am really starting to like the docks. I was he...

The docks are almost complete. I have changed the geometry (length) a little so they fit together in the 1" grid (optional overlay). I also added the weathering and barnacles!
I still want to add a ladder option somewhere on the side of the docks and then a ramp to walk up from the beach.
And I will make a lower variation of the narrow one. That will be it for this month :-)
The narr...

I have added the color modifiers, dirt and the old wood layer to the rowing boat. I have not added the painted versions from the jolly boat. Is there much interest in that? In my head this is just a simple boat, but let me know if you think you need more options.
With this build I went for the light old wood version. So it looks different to the old jolly boat.

In the meantime I have completed the color and texture variations for the jolly boat.
In addition to the regular wood look I have added the usual color modifier and dirt layers, but also a special "old wood" layer to make for a really old boat that has been rotting away on some island. I have built a dark version but it could be a lighter, bleached texture depending how you like.
Here you ...

I have built my first proper jolly boat, oars and all :-)
The rope coil and oars on the floor deck are optional, so you can switch them off as usual. The oars and oars holders are also optional, but I do think they make the boat shine!
Here I have put the oars into the boat. I imagine that's how it would look, when the boat is in waiting position tied to a dock.

A little WIP update: I have not yet decided how I will tackle the mast and sails, so I textured the jolly boat instead :-)
This is the wood version, but I will also have a white and dark grey version for the outside. The details (oars and rope coil) on the deck are optional layers, so you can either use them as seen here or switch them off (independently, if you just want the rope for example) a...

I have begun with the prototype for the gun boat, the first of the larger boats. The length is apx 8" so we have more breathing room for minis now :-)
I have also announced my plans for the Pirate Fleet Builder series over on these English and German paper modelers sites.

For larger ships or just to transport more people I made this jollyboat design. The small rowing boat is ~4" long. The jollyboat is ~6" long.
I first just made a longer version of the rowing boat but it didn't look right.

I then studied my research pics and adapted the geometry. I made the bo...

I am trying out the different versions on my test deck. The first one fits nicely with the paper mini bases. They are the same! :-)

Of course this version merges a little better with the ground texture of the main deck.

For this month I will be focusing again on the naval line. The last days I have been working on these steering wheel variations. They range from a simple version that can be used with a base or small standee to a full double wheel version as seen on large ships!
Also I will get back to the docks and refine the rowing boat and a little larger rowing boat version to be used as a jolly boat on a la...

I have dropped the Elders house files and authorized you guys for access according to your pledges. Thank you very much for your support!
As usual you will receive an e-Mail with the access links to the dropbox. I hope you enjoy the new rewards!
For the level 4 cut files I have only added the first bunch. The cut files for the fold-flat pages are coming up soon!...

For this month the set will include the "elders house" containing
6x4 raised house
4x4 ground extension
6x1 engawa/veranda
I will make the "charge patrons post" tomorrow.
Happy building,
Chris

Yesterday I have built a new model of the house without the joining wall. Usually there is just the step from the dirt ground to the raised tatami area.

I have also cut out some shoji doors and glued them in an open position. As this is a glued assembly, I modded parts of the joining walls to form ...

Although I have also made an alternate wooden floor for the raised part I am guessing that most will go with the tatami version.
This is all fold-flat version and the only thing I have to think about is the removing of the wall between the raised house and ground floor extension. There should only be the step from the dirt ground to the tatami level. It's no problem for the glued model, but I am...

I have finished the fold flat adaptation for the engawa (veranda) module.
You have the three main parts, the front, roof and deck/floor and if you want you can add the 3d posts.

In the end I have added these positioning helpers. You can insert the posts without but with them, they are held in...

For the upcoming months I have a whole series of boats and ships planned: The Pirate Fleet Builder series!
Starting from small rowing boats and gunboats to larger sloops and frigates (... and maybe even a huge galleon?) I will start making ships for tabletop RPG and war gaming. I am known for making display quality, easy-to-build and durable-for-gaming paper models. Check out m...

I am working on the fold flat parts of the elders house. The main building is no problem but I went through a couple of approaches for the veranda module.
So this is my final version so far. The assembly works fluent now. The roof can even be glued together and still unfold. The floor of the veranda needs to come apart for flat storage due to the intersection with the posts.

I am working on the final fine tuning and the fold flat, so there is not much to show but I thought I show you this new version I built to test out the latest changes.
One thing I had to do was to make the engawa (veranda) module 1mm narrower so that it had a chance to clamp on to the main building just with friction ... and it does now! I will probably add another connection just in case but I ...

Here is a little overview of the variations you can achieve with shoji patterns.
I have set it up that you have two shoji panels, two upper patterns, two corner wood panels and you can mix them all as shown above :-)
I think I will make my good build where the outside wall has a more covered up look like the one on the bottom right and the wall looking inside towards the garden will have j...

I have completed the texturing of the first layers of the extension too now, so I built a quick version and couldn't resist of creating this little image :-)
Now after the first rush I have to dig into the gritty details of completing all the missing texture layers and start working on interior and fold-flat!
Happy building,

Here is a first build of the textured main house. It went together very well. There are only a few things I want to improve.

Depending on the layers used for print you have a couple of choices as hinted at yesterday.
Then you can choose to add th...

Here is a little preview of the texturing I have done for the elders house.
My goal is two have two different versions of shoji (paper wall) patterns and wood panel patterns. Also I have structured the panels layers that you can have "regular" shoji panels where there is some wood panel on the bottom or some full paper shoji. Or even full wood panels on the edge (as shown in the top wall segment...

I think I have the geometry finalized and will start working on the texturing now.
Looking at the full setup I like the proportions of the building even more. It will look great when both buildings are used solo, but together they just form a beautiful whole, like most Japanese buildings! :-)
Happy building,
Chris

For the second prototype build I have refined some areas. It's not 100% final yet but getting in the right direction.
I have made the main roof a little higher and more steep so that it offsets the veranda roof a little better. I also made the posts full 3D (which will also work with the fold flat solution!).

Here is a first look at the engawa (veranda) of the new building. I put some of my existing models next to it and also populated it with some of the paper minis of my big box of figures to make the naked white test building a little more alive.
The first thing that catches my eye is that I need to make the posts really sturdy ... and preferable fold-flat-able! Right now they are just a flat stri...

While working on the geometry and design of the new upcoming elders house I was planning to make a raised entrance module if you did not go with the veranda (engawa) as the floor would then be floating in the air.
During a break I then went back to research and read some chapters in my books about Japanese architecture and remembered that usually the entry of the building via the engawa was rese...

Now that the preparations for this months release are finished, I wanted to show you what I have planned for the next set.
It is - what I call - an "Elders house", a 6x4" base with veranda (engawa) on each long side. Above you see a test rendering with some textures scribbled on. Variations will include different shoji panels and the engawa can be full length or as shown on the front side with a...

For the instructions and promo pics I am building some variations of the cannons. This is a round barrel build. When you don't score the barrel part, you get this smooth round version of the barrel. Also I have used the green-blue cooper patina layer. There is also a rusty red version. And with all the wood color variations I can see a lot of different cannons coming to your ship deck (or other de...

So for this month there will be the fences (which I am still working on fine tuning with a test builder so they wil...
