Also, you'll note Raven's designation starts with a D. That's because- so it happens- that she was unsuitable for enthrallment and therefore was to be droned. Turns out no Ravens are suitable for enthrallment. Shame that, but that's what happens sometimes.

As the picture suggests, Suki does indeed have her own harness; however as she was vetted by Azula she doesn't need to wear it. When sparring her sisters though, she does request to have herself fitted so as to make it an even fight, given the handicaps involved in wearing one.

So, part of the lore we're thinking of is how magic works. There's a lot of thinking about pacts with spirits and between souls, and the use of gems as conduits, amplifiers, etc.
