Girl in the Blue Hat Part 8

This is where it gets interesting lol! Nose, lips - I've put a little note on re the lips as I got the lines the wrong angle - I corrected them later on, but try to get the right angle at this point :)

Girl in the Blue Hat - Part 6

Working into the fringe area - it looks really odd to begin with but go with it :)

My thoughts were to add the darkest area and then draw in blocks adding the details at the end. This worked really well.

If you're using hot press paper then bear in mind you won't get light over dark so you may need to isolate the lightest parts :)

September focus tutorial

I thought I'd add in a little more for context. Wet fur is very different to dry fluffy fur, and this one will be quite challenging, trying to get the structure of the fur without it looking too harsh. I'm going to try to get something up for the 2nd September :)

September Tutorial

I'm so excited about this one! And no I didn't vote ;)

We're going to draw the whole thing - background, wood, leaves and Panda. It's not going to be huge and we'll be concentrating on form, tones and composition.

Thank you to everyone who voted :)

September Full Tutorial - choose your favourite

I always listen and try to give you tutorials you want to see not just the ones I want to draw - so I've picked out a few wild animals for you to choose from. Personally I'm in love with the Panda - I'd want to draw the full background on that one, and I'd include the leaves on the red panda. Let me kn...

Girl in the Blue Hat - Part 2 Felt Hat

I make a start on the felt hat in this part - most of it has voice over but there are a couple of places where I'm just adding colour for quite a while. I've left the real time and given you a time to skip to if you wish.

I loved doing the hat - very mindful and relaxing :)

Girl in the Blue Hat - Part 1 - Eyes

Here is the first part of the little girl in the blue hat - I really hope you enjoy this as much as I did :)

It's on 25x35cm pastelmat board although you can use all the techniques on hot press paper if you prefer. The size of the drawing from edge to edge is 26cm.

I haven't used any solvents or water just pure pencils, but I have used a small dry brush and cotton buds - they were f...

Very excited to say I’m going to be adding human tutorials to my Patreon as well - animals will always be my main focus but I’ve loved drawing this little girl so much and it gives me a challenge trying something new. Really hope you enjoy it 🥰

My first human portrait tutorial!

If you are wanting to get some tips on drawing humans, then I'm hopeful this will be a great one to start with. I'm using my usual techniques I use for animals, but creating this lovely little girl, minus any fur of course lol!

The eyes are done, and I'm now working on her hat :)

Human eyes are so very different to animal eyes, but still have to have the life in them - even more imp...

Dapple Grey Horse - Part 5

In this video I start to work on the body part of the horse - now you can do this in a number of ways and actually I change techniques for the neck part to show you how.

You can mark out all the dapples first and draw round them or you can add the colour and dab them out - whatever works best for you :)

Part 2 we tackle the ears, the forelock plait and the forehead. You'll notice that I'm not going full on with details - this is to show you you can use minimal details and layering and still get a great result :)

Dapple Grey Horse - Part 1

Part one of the Dapple Grey - I loved drawing this piece. It's on pastelmat board, and you can see in the video how grainy it can look when zoomed in and close up - but don't forget no one sees it like that in real life - grain is part of pastelmat - so try to embrace it :)

I really enjoyed doing this tutorial - it's relatively speedy, and once you get the colour and tone in, using the slice tool is great fun :)
