April Full Tutorial - Rosa #12

Making a start on Rosa's beautiful face - this is a different type of technique when you're layering, as it's much more subtle than on her neck area.

The layers are fewer, and I've left gaps in between to help with the flecking of her coat.

I apologise about the audio quality in some of the this video. I'm having some issues with microphones at the moment which I'm trying to sort ou...

Black curly fur

I know the poll I ran had white fur at the top of the list, but I’ve just finished a portrait of two little dogs with curly black fur so whilst I was in the zone I created this for you all. I need to edit it as sadly my audio has issues again, so I may need to re record the voice over, but this is a great one for getting to grips with the ugly stages of drawing as, honestly it looks terrible ...

April Full Tutorial - Rosa #5

Still working on the neck area, and also creating the leather work on the reins - intricate details, so a good one if you're wanting to create leather on a smaller scale and still get the look and feel. Please credit Murtagh Photography, please share in closed groups or your own social pages, and unfortunately I don't have permission for you to sell or create prints of this piece.

Lots of layering on the neck area and the start of her mane. If you want to really get to grips with layering then this will be a good video to watch :)

April's photo

You may be all donkey'd out, but this is a photo I took a couple of years ago and thought you might like it - the brown donkey is Buttercup and the grey one, a very old lady, called Lilliana - both rescues. You are welcome to do what you want with this photo - you have full rights.

April Tutorial. Rosa #1

This is the start of the beautiful grey Rosa - I will upload full materials list and am intro video today plus all the ref photos and line drawing. This video sadly has audio issues 8 mins through 30 - there’s an annoying echo which I can’t resolve with my limited understanding of audio software. But I’m hoping it won’t ruin your enjoyment - and it’s only a few minutes out of quite a ...

April Focus Video - Leather #2

The second part of this focus video. You'll see me create the lovely leather, and you'll also see me make mistakes and then rectify them - a really important lesson I believe as it's so important to know how to put things right when they don't go to plan.

April Focus Video - Leather #1

First of four videos that total around 8 hours, so it's going to keep you busy!! Apologies at the beginning if my hand is in the way - I did move the camera angle pretty early on so don't worry too much. It's so hard getting the right angle for close up shots. Reference photo, line art and the full materials list now attached. I would strongly suggest you create your own line drawing. Copyright...

April tutorials

April's tutorials will be uploaded shortly :) I'm so excited about sharing them with you - you'll also be getting a spaniel paw this month and hopefully some white fur, plus a mini marketing video. Bare with me as Patreon can be a little slow on the 1st of the month, so once they've done what they need to do I can upload all the videos for you.

Leather focus video for April

This is part of the main tutorial but I’m drawing again super sized!! Means I can get all the detail in - lots of techniques just in this noseband - getting your paper super smooth with loads of layers - using white over dark colours to get the gorgeous shine, creating realistic looking stitches and metal work 😊

April’s tutorial finished

Just need to edit and upload the videos and she’ll be all yours to create 😍 focus video of the nose band is also going to be available at a4 size so we can really concentrate on the details 😍

April’s tutorial 🤩

Nearly finished!! And then I’ll edit the videos ready to upload on 1st April 😊. There are so many techniques in this one - and I’ll be doing an enlarged focus video of the leather so we can get all that gorgeous detail in 😍

White fur focus

This will be the white fur focus - and I’m going to try and get something done for April, if not it’ll be May. I taught this one on Friday and got some amazing results - I was directing rather then drawing - and it turned out fabulously. The main thing with fur/hair like this is to understand how awful it will look to begin with and just go with it 😉 if anyone wants to have a go or want ...

April’s full tutorial

There are so many elements to April’s tutorial. Layering to create short hair, leather work, long hair and tiny details - and the focus video will be an enlarged version of the leather work so we can get all the tiny details in 😊 you can see the first layer on the neck - another 4/5 layers and it will look so different.

Little Lamb Sketch

Just something quick to get your pencils whizzing!! This took me half an hour, just over. There's no detail, it's just a black and a white pablo - and I've used a museum aquarell as well, but you don't have to. Images are attached, I haven't done a line art just because of time, I'll add one later if you really want one, but I'd suggest either sketching without an outline or creating your own s...

Little extra tutorial for you all 😊

I’m all canine’d out from two days of intensive teaching - my goodness did they work hard!!! So I thought instead of jumping into my next big commission which will also be the grey horse tutorial for May - I’m going to do a little quick drawing of the lamb - and you can have on all the tiers as a tutorial - but a sketchy one rather than loads of detail 😊
