Finishing off the muzzle area and starting to work towards the cheek.

I'd recommend a quick wizz through on this video as I make a mistake on the muzzle area and then correct it. I wanted to leave the mistake in so you can see how to rectify it - but don't want you to make the same mistake!
2019-03-15 09:33:20 +0000 UTC View PostWhat type of tutorials or focus videos would you like to see on my channel? I'm a little restricted currently with my commissioned work - although many of those make fabulous tutorials with gorgeous subjects, but my aim is to add in exclusive pieces for my Patrons. So what would you like to see? Is there anything you're struggling with that you'd like full length videos of? I'll add some option...

Quick 10 minute video just discussing what you can do to make life a little easier when working with poor ref photos. It’s probably something a lot of you do anyway, I’d love to hear any tips you have for getting the best out of a poor photo.

This is a cropped area of fur of the dog I'm using for my up and coming workshops. He will also be the focus of tutorials in May.
I thought it would be a fun exercise to pick out the colours you would use to create this fur, and maybe have a go at visualising and putting into words how you'd tackle this. It's a close up, so you'd probably not have this much detail in such a large ar...

Short video showing how the hashtags in Instagram work, and how you can use them to showcase your work.
It's a good idea to take a little time - half an hour or so - and research the hashtags and accounts that will benefit you and your work.

Time-lapse of the cat eye that I'll be releasing as a focus video. Sometimes, I just want something quick to draw that looks finished in just a couple of hours - and cat eyes are perfect for that. I'd never ever say anything is easy as we all have our own challenges - but cat eyes I find more simple than dog and horse eyes due to their uniformity and the way the whole eyeball fills the eye with...
2019-03-06 10:07:18 +0000 UTC View PostMorning all 😊 I know many of you like to listen to my videos in the background etc. And I just wanted to note that the donkey piece does have quite a lot of repetition in the techniques. When I was videoing it I didn’t talk in these bits and now I’m realising after so many lovely comments about listening to me talking etc that actually i need to have commentary throughout. This is a lear...

Royalty free, copyright free, high resolution image. This is one of my photos, so you are welcome to do what you like with it, credit me if you want but you don't have to, you can sell your original, take prints, make cards - whatever you like. And this will be a great one to try once you've worked on the shiny black fur tutorial ;)
2019-03-01 23:05:07 +0000 UTC View PostI have now uploaded one focus video, which is the shiny black fur, and seven out of fourteen videos for the full donkey tutorial. I've attached the materials list as a pdf, and the line drawing and the photo ref both as jpg files. If anyone has any problems, please let me know and I can attach as pdf or I can email if you wish.
The colours are minimal for the black fur, and quite ex...

Second video in the full donkey tutorial and in this one we make a start on the ears. I you don't have a slice tool, you can use a craft knife, but be very gentle with it!

This is the first video of 14, all in real time with voice over. You must excuse my voice however, as when I was filming this piece I had a bad cold.
I'm attaching the photo ref, line art which is digitally created, and a list of the materials I've used. Please do have a look at the intro video where I introduce the tools I use to create the textured fur.
I will also create a docume...

So this video is an hour and half, focussing on the shiny black fur on top of Rosa's head. This will give you a really great insight into the amount of layers you'll need on the dark grey Pastelmat, and also how to create shiny fur that looks shiny. This is the first of a couple of focus videos this month. I have attached the ref photo and the line art (digitally created). I would always recomm...

A little introduction to the donkey tutorial which is around 20+ hours. I introduce the tools I use together to create the textured fur, I talk about how I break down a complicated subject so it seems less daunting, the materials I use and why I use them.
I'd recommend watching this short video to get an insight into what you can expect from the full tutorial.

2019-02-25 10:28:20 +0000 UTC View PostThis morning I met one of my clients who commissioned the drawing of her Bassett Hound, Theodora - we actually met in Betty's which is a Yorkshire based tea room and has the most amazing cinnamon toast! She's relatively local, and wanted to see the piece in person before I had it framed etc. The subject of lightfastness came up, so I thought I'd share here what we discussed.
I told her al...
