What’s happening in June?

I’ve got loads of questions already for the Q&A live session on June 2nd, don’t forget to submit yours via email Bonny.snowdon@gmail.com

The full tutorial will be the little calf, and the focus video white fur. I’ve also got the fabulous opportunity to draw tutorials from some wonderful wildlife photos - who fancies otters, big cats, birds?

I’m adding another tier in Ju...

Overcoming challenges

This is an excerpt from my latest tutorial. I often talk about all sorts of things related to drawing or the art business in my tutorials. Understanding why we feel like we do sometimes I think is the first step to getting back on track 😊

Sound

Hi all - I know a couple of you have mentioned some sound issues. I’m not sure why some people are having issues and others not. I check all the video footage as I edit - I’ve had some issues with microphone and recording equipment - it’s all very technical so I’m trying to learn how to use it all as well as create videos for you. I’ve listened to the videos that a couple of you have ...

May's hi res copyright free image

I was doing some photography last year near Jervaux Abbey in North Yorkshire, the Abbey just appears from nowhere right in front of you. And right next to it was a field full of the most beautiful Limousine cows, calves and the biggest bull you've seen in your life!!

They all came up to say hello - I was at the other side of the wall ;) but I got some lovely photos of them all. This...

Mini Marketing Series #1

So as promised, here is the first video in my marketing series. Now many people think marketing is something you have to have experience with, have qualifications in, basically it's something big companies do to sell their services.

Well - forget all of that, because that's daunting, and scary and that's why we as artists shy away from 'marketing'.

This is three minutes ...

Ruby Spaniel - Full Tutorial #1

The first part of Ruby the working cocker spaniel. This is black fur again - but on white paper, so totally different techniques, you'll need to watch highlights etc.

She's so much fun to draw, I've included the photo ref, line art and pdf document with all the pencils, sizes etc.

Have fun :)

Black Wavy Fur - Focus Video - May

This is actually a really fab tutorial! I've taught it three times now, and it works beautifully. It's very simple, you only need a few colours, and actually you could get away with just using black and white. You don't need a line drawing for this one - it's all freehand :0

Word of warning - set yourself an expectation that the initial layers will look absolutely awful lol! But the end r...

Sneaky Peak of May's full tutorial

I have my own way of creating eyes, with lots of reasons why I do things and why I use certain pencils. In May's full length tutorial on my Patience tier, I explain how and why I create eyes the way I do, and you'll also have the opportunity to see how I create the rest of the portrait - black fur on white paper - lots of new techniques to get to grips with :) and you'll become a dab hand at cr...

May’s tutorial

Well here she is - boy you are all going to be busy!! I’ll break the videos down into sections so you can dip in and out - you can’t see all the colours I’ve used bottom left - I’ve turned my techniques on their head to get the effects so I hope you enjoy. And it’s mostly pencil and putty eraser with a bit of tape and the slice but not much. This one is all about tonal values and hair...

May’s tutorial well under way!

You can’t see it but there are so many colours in this black spaniel ❤️ bright pink glazed over the blues and blacks. This one is going to give you all the techniques you need to draw spaniel ears that you could reach your hand into the paper and feel, plus it’s another great one for black fur but this time on white paper so very very different to the dark grey. Once you master spaniel ...

May’s tutorials

I know I’ve already done a black spaniel, but this one is on white and with loads of details. I’ve had quite a few requests for black fur on white paper so I think this one will be fab! Using very different techniques plus getting to grips with spaniel ears - how to get them looking real and not stripy! You’ve also got to contend with the warm and coolness in the lighting. And sticking wi...

My latest commission

Just wanted to share this with you all - I wanted a real softness to his hair so used the white pastelmat board and have used the white museum aquarell a lot to help smooth out. I did try using an embossing tool to begin with but I wasn’t careful enough (in the ears) and I lost a bit of the softness I was wanting. That’s something for me to practice! I also didn’t use the slice tool a lot...
