Morning all, I was asked about pricing and thought it would be easier to chat about it rather than write about it, so here's an ad hoc video - I'm working on a commission and just chatting about pricing structures etc.
Hope it's useful :)

I've put together a really quick video for you, showing you the full process from saving the jpg image in photoshop to positioning yourself so you don't get in the way of the projector and block your image.
The videos for the projector are taking with my iphone, so they aren't great, but do show you exactly how I move things around and how the functions work.

I'm about to start a new commission. It's 14x19" so half a sheet, of three black labs. The client really likes the one of them all laid down together - it's actually a photo of them in the back of a car, and I've just added a dark grey background. This one is absolutely gorgeous as a photo - but there is little detail so it would all be about the tonal values and getting those lights and darks ...

A few worksheets I've created for my workshops that I offered to upload for you.
I'll be creating more of these but they will be much more detailed, and will be available on my Proficiency tier from time to time. These do sit alongside some of the videos I've uploaded, and hopefully will be useful for you going forwards.

Combining wonderful detail, sleek hair and some fabulous rich colours - I am really excited about this one!!!

For me one of the most challenging types of hair/fur to draw is the smooth, sleek large expanse like that of a horses neck. This is the shoulder of a horse, that is super smooth has some wonderful colour and will be a really good focus as it will really challenge us to get smooth blending and create the wonderful highlighted areas.

I adore this photo - another of Elisabeth's. I love the lighting, the colours, everything. This one would have a background and will be one of the one's a do with panpastel underpainting.

Another of Elisabeth's beautiful photos - I think this one might be the piece I'll be using for my horse workshop in September. It'll be a good one for creating subtlety and choosing colours that you might think don't exist in this lovely light coloured hair.

So this is one of the photos I've chosen to create a texture focus video - I'm not certain yet whether I'll be using pastelmat or drafting film - I love drafting film and did quite a few portraits using it in 2017. The focus will definitely feature the forelock and ear :)

Some Panpastel underpainting tutorials?
Colorfin who make Panpastel want to send me some to trial so I thought it would be a great opportunity to trial them in a video tutorial.
I have tried them in the past and didn’t really like the feel - but when you’re offered something for free - well it would be rude not to 😂
I’ve g...

I changed my recording camera half way through so the colour has been a real issue - I've since changed it back again as it just wasn't good enough quality sadly. So apologies if it goes a bit pinky at times.

This is a little video I took footage of back in February and have just edited and put it together so you can see the framing process of one of my pieces.
My framer is vital to what I do, all my portraits are single mounted with extra thick mount or matt board before they are posted off to my clients, and framing is a service I also provide if my client wants it.
These g...

Anyone who missed it, here's the recording. Now this is the first time I've done a live stream, and I know I have a lot to learn - so be kind lol! I will try to have two cameras next time so you're not just looking at my hands ;) The live chat function should work, but I think you need to watch via youtube rather than within Patreon, next month I'll post a link for you to join. Anyway I hope it...

Hi all, I'm sharing this info that Derwent has sent through to me, the lightfast colour chart and some info around the actual pencils and when the next 28 pencils will be available - personally I can't wait for some of these final colours to come out - Dark Honey, Chestnut, Light Bronze, Warm Earth, Raisin, Autumn Brown, Taupe, Cool Grey in particular I think will be really useful additions. I ...

This will be recorded as well and I'll post the video up tomorrow for you to re-play :) Looking forward to seeing you all there. I will be doing a tutorial of this gorgeous girl, but I thought you'd like a photo of her as this month's ref. It's mine so copyright free :)

Rescheduled due to YouTube having issues last night. I have tonnes of questions, hopefully I'll get round to answering them all, but I may need to run some over to July. I'm answering your questions, but I also have some video clips to share with you that will help answer the questions, plus some demoing of pencils and paper!
2019-06-03 09:50:04 +0000 UTC View PostI'm so sorry, we will have to postpone the Q&A, youtube has had a major outage, and the Studio area I need to access to run the live session can't be accessed.
I'm happy to run this anytime that is good for you guys, we can do tomorrow, or leave until next Sunday? Whatever works for you.
I'm so sorry! Was really looking forward to this, and had everything ready.

June's tutorial is a gorgeous little Limousin Heifer, she's on A3 sized pastelmat board, and is a gorgeous rich red/brown colour.
This is the first video, showing the first layers, how I add in the darkest areas first across the piece and then start to work from left to right.

I love doing these little focus tutorials, they're short and you learn so much about the type of hair or fur we're drawing. This month it's white hair, taken from a photo of my lovely girl Slipper. The piece is only about 4x3" so not big at all and took me just over 3 hours.
Patience is key with fur like this - and setting yourself expectations as this one really does look pretty gr...

She’s coming on a treat! I was dreading the collar but it’s been so much fun to do! Loads of techniques in this one - skin in the ears, short fur that’s all different colours and of course ‘that’ collar 😉

So I’ve been asked to be a guest artist for the animal artists collective again - the theme this time is ungulates which are animals with odd and even toes - so I’ve chosen a zebra! And it’ll be a full tutorial - I’ve already found the image and it’s fab!! I can’t wait!!!! Perhaps you guys could choose if I go for black paper or white? I’m thinking Pastelmat white board or a black...

This is the little brindle whippet cross Tilly Two Shoes. She is going to be a full tutorial in the next couple of months, but I thought you'd like to see an intro, which shows you how I plan a piece, my colour choices and any issues I think might crop up, what to look out for and how to break things down so it's not so overwhelming.
