I think this is what most people have been looking forward to - the horn part! This is three and a half hours of drawing the first section of the horn - all real time. I try to break it down so it's a little less scary - just remember go slow :) I'm using the studios a lot for this with them being much more subtle colours - it means I can use harder pressure with then gives a smoother result a ...

Part one of the Fluffy cat tutorial :)
I've updated the materials list - new colours added are Polychromos Light Yellow Ochre, White, Walnut Brown, Studio: Gunmetal, Lightfast: Persian Orange
The main challenge with this piece is the fact that it's very pale and we're drawing it on white paper! So getting your darks dark is important - but the fact that the darkest darks are s...

I know many have asked for a studio tour - so here is a very quick one.
I am not a glamorous artist, neither am I very tidy! My studio is functional, is a place where I am the majority of the time and where my dogs are. I don't have candles burning or pretty things, I have pencils, a load of recording equipment and dogs to the left and right of me lol!
I'll do a more in-depth tour o...

In this video I go through all the colours I used when drawing Ryan, the gorgeous black lab. From the usual suspects, to those more unusual colours, like yellow ochre and pink!
It's quite common to see a lot of blue dogs rather than black, and I was very guilty of doing this, because of course we are always told black fur isn't black!
But how do you get a range of colours into you d...

Edited to say - the Ram will be May's full tutorial, the cat will be the focus - I always do two tutorials each month :)
Hi all - I've had quite a few requests to complete the cat I've just drawn the eyes for, and having looked at the photo its very burry, so have found an alternative that is similar.
I was going to be doing the swan this month on drafting film, but I'm thinki...

Very quick video showing how I quickly use transfer paper to draw an outline quickly onto the paper I want to draw my portrait on.
Tracing an outline in this way isn't cheating, it's a tool, and will help you to understand perspective and proportions.
Nothing beats drawing freehand, but some people struggle or don't have the time, so using tools like this can be really useful ...

I streamed this live back in October, and I'm now sharing with everyone as I think it's quite a good video to see the differences between the three kinds of film
Duralar
Polydraw
Grafix Drafting Film
I demo a bit, and show you what they look like so you can make an informed choice when buying.
It's a live stream so I am answering questions and saying hello to people who ...

Attached is the materials list so you can get ready for May!
I'm using Pastelmat board in white, however if you prefer smooth paper, the techniques I use will transfer very well.
The only pencils I'd recommend definitely for this one if you're going to be using pastelmat are the Studios which I've used almost exclusively for the horns.

I've discovered that I can record my iphone screen!!! So I've just done this very quick video showing how easy it is in the ColorScape app to create an outline.
You literally open the app, choose a photo from your camera roll, it immediately changes it to an outline, and then you can tweak the resolution and details etc. It does cost around £5 but it's totally worth it and it does ...
