The amazing Tina Virani has shared this video for us, she's recorded herself using a lightbox and various papers to show how brilliantly the ref shows through - even on pastelmat!!!
This is the link to one similar on Amazon - very cheap and I think pretty fab!!
Thanks so much Tina :)

I mentioned yesterday about maybe creating an extra tutorial each month that focusses on the real basics - still going into detail, and not changing my techniques, but really drilling down into the basics. I'll stick to one brand of pencils, (where I can - I may need to use a specific white) and I'll try to really slow down and talk about things in detail. I think the majority of my tutorials d...

I'm asked a lot whether my tutorials are suitable for complete beginners, and I always say that yes, because I try to get as much detail into my videos as possible, even though it's jumping in at the deep end, beginners will, I feel, be fine working on any of my tutorials.
I am going to try to create a small, relatively short video each month that is aimed at the real basics, but still cr...

UPDATE: Note from Graphics Direct re overseas orders: I have been looking into the shipping options to the US, Canada, Australia etc, and due to the type of products we sell ie from very large and heavy items such as A0 drawing boards to small items such as replacement leads it would take so much configuration to set up. I think it would be easier, and be much cheaper for your customers if init...

Part 1 of the Hummingbird, attached below are the hi res photo, line art and materials list. If you don't have the luminance then just choose the brightest greens, blues and purples from whatever set you have - honestly it won't matter.
In this tutorial it's mostly single layers of colour on drafting film. I used a piece that was 25x35cm. I would use either the Grafix drafting film ...

Part one of the the lovely barn owl. Hi res image and line art attached plus the materials list. I used an A3 piece of paper, but you can do him whatever size you want. The paper I've used is smooth, so any smooth paper will work, plus of course pastelmat - I would say the techniques would be very different on drafting film so if you want to use that you will have to tweak.

The full tutorial in July will the little French Bulldog Parker :) Unusual colour, full body, some blurred areas, and a cut off paw - all things you'll find in images sent for commissions.
The Focus video will be a horse's muzzle, plus the headcollar parts - headcollars can be quite intimidating when drawing horses portraits - especially these fabric ones.
Someone said they wa...
