My first proper tutorial using Fabriano Artistico hot press paper - i know a lot of you use it so felt it only fair that I start to create tutorials on a smoother paper. Working on the nose area at the moment. This will be going up on the 2nd August over all the tiers. Photo ref pixabay

Something that many of you may end up wanting to use is a projector. I know I'm really lucky that I have the Artograph Inspire 1000, it's brilliant, but sadly no longer available.
I have tried so many ways of setting up my projector, and only now that I have an overhead rig do I actually feel I have a process and set up that works.
This is an adhoc video, a bit wavery and flickery, ...

Oh my word this has been fun!!
She may look complicated and full of detail, but I've used techniques like cross hatches and noughts and crosses to create the complicated skin.
She's been quite speedy for a big piece, only around 20 hours and that's down to not much layering and harder pressure than I usually use.
Pablos have been incredible on the dark grey pastelm...

The easiest way to access all of my tutorials is via my website. I have a dedicated page with all the links, you just find the piece you want to draw, click on it, and then on which part you want to watch, and it will take you directly to patreon :)

If you’re sick of layering and using light pressure, finding a combination of pencils to create the right colour then this tutorial is definitely for you! I’m using techniques to simplify a complicated subject. Concentrating on the darks and the wrinkles first and foremost and using just a few colours - mostly pablos because they go down on the pastelmat so softly. I’m allowing the grain ...

Not sure if you have heard of this, but the 25th July is Life in a Day.
Film your day and you may become part of a historic global documentary produced by Ridley Scott.
We have a Q&A session booked in for Saturday afternoon, which would be perfect as part of my day, and of yours.
Here's a link that gives you all the details 2020-07-22 16:33:42 +0000 UTC

I was thinking - as usual lol! And I thought it would be great to create another piece similar to the one in the image.
But I'd like to do a bit of a vlog, showing how I find the references, what I'm looking for and then how I combine different photos together to create a composition.
I'd like to use the film again, or smooth paper on the icarus board as I know many of y...

I thought I'd record my thought process in working out what paper I'm going to be using for the baby elephant, I think it's really important to think about what paper you'll use, if like me you use a few different ones.
For this piece I have to think about the details, texture, colour, composition, size - and before I even take a pice of paper out, I will have thought about what technique...

I've just finished my latest commission piece so am prepping for August's tutorials.
$10 TIER: The baby elephant was the clear winner for the main tutorial, so we will be doing him/her :) I honestly don't know what paper I'll use I need to really think about it - I may even use a toned paper for her (let's call her Nelly❤) I've just googled her and she's actually called Riva Hi Wa...

This is the third video in this month's beginner series.
Wrinkles on drafting film. I decided to go with a different image due to the colouring of the first one.
Again short, just looking at the techniques for drafting film.

I think I've confused things lol! With Vimeo, you watch via Patreon. I think that's the privacy thing - there's no way to watch anywhere else or download etc.
Edited to say I don’t ever want people to have a poor viewing experience, so I may just go back to YouTube if it’s causing issues.
Hi all, I know some of you have already commented about my move to using Vimeo rather than ...

Sometimes a commission doesn't go as planned, and you have to have an awkward conversation with your client if they want to change things or even if they don't like the finished piece.
Whilst videoing Parker, I took 20 minutes out to talk about those conversations you may find yourself having, and what do do and say.
I hope this is useful :)

I thought I'd do a quick video just explaining a bit about tones and colours in white fur.
Please excuse my lock down nails - we're doing the garden up at the moment and it's taking a toll on my nails!
This doesn't go into all the colours you need, but just shows how white fur very rarely is white - and how it's quite daunting to draw white fur on white paper, and how our brains see...

I'm in love with the baby elephant, and have chosen three other babies and a cat I just fell in love with, and the little bird on the stirrup that I've been given permission by Katy Ferrari (how adorable is it!) that I think would make lovely tutorials. Which would you choose? I'm trying to get permission for the elephant and the raw file without filters.
I'll be making a star...
