This is the most youtube-youtube video I've ever made! I built a guillotine with Jón from Proper Printing and we tested different blade shapes. And put a couple watermelons under there of course.

How I write my scripts

I'm not often asked how I write scripts, in comparison as to how I make my animations, but I think the script is actually just as important, and possibly quite a bit harder. That's because it's not immediately obvious if you do something wrong.

Longitudinal waves (and some more animations)

Sound waves are often shown as a wiggly line. This line shows the change in pressure (usually air pressure). High points are higher and low points are lower pressure than the ambient air pressure.

Two waves with slightly different wavelengths will produces so called 'Beatings'.

In some spots the two waves add together, while in others they cancel each other out. We perceive this as one sound that gets loud and quite in quick succession. In fact, the frequency of the change in amplitude is given by the difference in frequency of the two waves. With one wave of 440Hz and one of 441Hz...

when two waves with the same frequency travel in opposite directions, they form a standing wave. A standing wave oscillates, but its peaks and troughs don't move. Their nodes and anti-nodes stay in the same place.
