Hello there,
I'm back to bring you a preview for a very exciting upcoming feature that people have been requesting for almost as long as the world map mod has existed. I personally always saw this idea as a bit of an overkill, so it was never a priority for me. You could say that I finally CAVED IN (sorry).
I have been working on this for about a month now. The video showcases the best case scenario for using the cave mode, which is for world-save-based singleplayer maps. Access to the world save enables the mod to reload the map at any Y level range, from anywhere, at any time, similar to how it has always worked in the minimap mod, just on a much bigger scale. In addition to that, a map instance is now divided into multiple layers which are automatically switched between based on what the current top Y for mapping is. There will be an option to manually configure the top Y level. In multiplayer, the different layers work exactly as if they were different map instances altogether. Unfortunately, without world save access, this means that each map layer would have to be explored separately. Not that it's that big of an issue though, since most players only care to see the caves that are close to them. There is also going to be a cave mapping mode that works almost exactly the same way as Nether maps currently work, where the mod attempts to map out all of the underground no matter the Y level. It could be a good option for multiplayer, if you don't want to deal with exploring multiple cave layers.
This whole thing has caused quite a few performance nightmares so far that I had to figure out, and that's likely not even the end of it. Hoping to bring it all to you very soon though. Feel free to let me know what you think!
As always, thank you for your continuous support! It means a lot.
