Other works
Bakegyamon (2006-2007, 5 vols, Weekly Shonen Sunday)
Had a 51 episode anime from Radix Ace Entertainment, a company that died before it finished coming out, and this manga, which ran all of 5 volumes and petered out. Oh, it’s about monster battling in a backwards universe.
Pocket Monster RéBURST (2011-2012, 8 vols, Weekly Shonen Sunday) written by Jin Kusude
The most shonen version of Pokémon EVER, where ‘Burst Warriors’ fuse with Pokémon into hybrid forms. It’s a bit like Digimon Frontier, except somehow even more awesome.
Future Card Buddyfight (2013-2018, 11 vols, CoroCoro Comic)
Remember Future Card Buddyfight? The not-Yu-Gi-Oh that lasted all of seven years? The one where the company that owned it sued the creator because he openly criticized the company and talked about his work on the product? Had about six anime series? No, I don’t, either. This is the manga of that, one of the first branches of a short-lived multimedia empire.
Future Card: Shin Buddyfight (2018-2020, 4 vols, CoroCoro Comic/Bessatsu CoroCoro Comic)
More of the above, a direct sequel that transferred magazines for whatever reason during its run.
Urban Myth Sensei Uramon (2022-2023, 2 vols, Weekly CoroCoro Comic)
A rare original work for Tamura. Konoura Mondo (Uramon for short) is a strangely chibi elementary school teacher who must protect the students under his care from spooky urban myths using the mysterious keyhole in his hand. Ran on a web platform with weekly in the name, but did not run weekly. Not confusing at all.

About the Manga
Plot
Enji is a mad scientist specializing in magic who wants a hot big booby girl named Moegi to like him. He decides to summon the great yellow dragon to impress her but oh no instead of a dragon a little girl appears. Her name is Kimidori and she actually is the dragon! She’s got a little lizard tail and Instead of breathing fire she vomits clear jelly that explodes. She soon meets new friends Botan, Shishimaru, and some other kid and in an attempt to make the kids think he’s cool, Enji summons a red dragon which appears as a tiny little birdie who beats the shit out of him. It’s at this point that Kimidori reveals to Enji that he fucked up the incantation when summoning her and accidentally made himself subservient to her.
A bunch of goofy shit happens and then an armor-clad down-on-her-luck young dragon hunter named Luccora shows up to take down Kimidori. When Kimidori easily defeats her she demands that Luccora become her underling. When training, Kimidori fires one of her dragon-breath jelly cubes with a slingshot that sends Luccora and Enji flying right in front of a bear, where Enji’s magic potion drops out of his pocket and makes the bear super strong. Enji jumps in front of her because she’s only a kid, and the bear gets diarrhea from the potion and runs away. Luccora’s clothes get ripped off by branches and, in a shocking and incredibly thankful turn of events for manga, Enji doesn’t give a shit because she’s a kid. Oh my god THANK you author!
A bunch more goofy shit happens involving the obligatory hot-springs-peeping chapter and then Kimidori and Moegi are kidnapped by Genjo, the head scientist of Bolt Country who considers himself Enji’s rival even though Enji doesn’t give a shit about him. Enji, Luccora, and the kids all get on a magic carpet powered by Kimidori’s dragon breath placed into glass balls, called “dragon balls” which involve a lot of meta humor about getting sued and stuff. It seems at first that Kimidori is under the control of the bad guy but when Genjo, who seems to actually be a pedo, tries to make her change into a swimsuit, Kimidori blows up the entire city and reveals she was faking it the whole time. A bunch of bad guys start plotting to take over the bolt empire now that Kimidori blew it up but nah the manga’s over.

Why it Failed
This has like no plot
I have trouble following what’s actually happening in each chapter, like chapter 2 feels like a mess
Sometimes when I read a manga that’s really confusing I double check which direction I read and I had to several times
These chapters are so full of filler like it’s a grandpa G again where it just kinda redoes the same joke for 20 pages
Kimidori is just a boring character I really can’t speak much to what she’s actually like she doesn’t seem to actually really do or want anything
This series feels like it’s half-committed to being what it actually is, is it a casual comedy manga or a full on dr slump style gag manga cause it seems to kinda not really be either
This really needed more wacky magic hijinks
I just felt no attachment to the series, it just kinda feels meh
Finally gets an actual plot at the end - but then it’s kinda boring and forced
What it Did Well - Jordan
Art is fine, fun and expressive
I like the paneling
I like the physical comedy
The Jelly gag actually gets me lmao
It’s funny having a dragon slayer being trained by a dragon
The nose lengthening potion was funny
The author has a decent grasp on joke timing, like when you see Luccora doing curls and then it zooms out she’s also pulling a bunch of tires and it doesn’t oversell it
Where it Could Have Gone
Maybe dive more into Kimidori needing to return to her dragon form, maybe it’s like a punishment and she has to do 100 good deeds or something
I think a 4koma format could have been fun where everything needs to be tight
I imagine Kimidori having to fight tons of dragon slayers and using her toon force powers
Maybe establish some rules for how the magic works it just feels so weirdly glanced over and could have helped differ it from things like Dr. Slump
Misc Thoughts - Sakaki
This kinda reminds me of zatch bell, maybe the art style idk
I wonder why they used western dragons for this
I can just imagine the earthquake scene with Moegi if this had been animated, like the turbulence scene in airplane
Lmao the eva alien mashup
Gunjo wanting to be a forced rival reminds me of the weird diegetic timeskip out of control had
Maxy Bee thoughts:
I got nothing. The series is puddle deep, and I don’t mean that as a criticism. Heart on its sleeve.
Final Verdict - Sakaki
