So I'm curious about these isometric dioramas and I wonder if anyone else sees the potential I do in them. I think they could be an interesting approach to describe an encounter space; either a one shot location or for an encounter, where one doesn't want to run a gridded map or play completely theatre of the mind.
They're quite limited in focus... which I think is part of the appeal, it's not meant to be a sprawling battlemap and what its particularly good at is showing the vertical space of the play area.
I haven't used them in actual play just yet, but I am using them as inspiration for location-based encounter design. If you find a use for them, let me know in the comments below.
