Lim

Since this month's suggestions were about my OCs I spent some time really thinking about them. I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted to show Lim fighting or what her living space is like. It made me ask myself how well do I know my characters and how much of me is really in there?

After a bad drawing session the other night I went out on a jog to reflect on myself and it really helped. I created Lim in the hopes of making something that was all for me rather than my usual struggle of creating things for others. She's been the most fun to draw but I still don't think I've given her my all. That's ok though, I took a deep breath and slowed down to explore. I tweaked her design and just made sure I was moving in a way I liked. During the process I even came up with some ideas for a one shot comic.

At the start she was going to be the lead character in a comic I was writing but ended up moving away from. She started off as a cat girl (don't have the original drawing anymore) that turned into more of a bat then ultimately just a vampire. I went away from the gothy look because I thought making a vibrant vampire would stand out. Her final look was more inspired by succubus like Morrigan and Lilith from Darkstalkers. I've rarely drawn her in her more monstrous state but will tend to use the arms a lot. Her name was made from the word "smile". I always wanted her to look like a trendy bad ass fighter but felt like the fighter side was missing. I drew on an old idea I had when I was much younger about ninja vampires to inspire the modifications to her outfit. It's a subtle touch but I think it made some neat results.

On the more technical side something I've been noticing when I work is that I tend to draw in parts. For example I'll start drawing a head or a torso and refine those things and then slowly work my way out. I think this way of drawing forces me to do a lot more work when I try to visualize the piece as a whole. So for this one I drew her zoomed out getting a feel for the entire pose until I was satisfied. I think this shift in my process really made a difference do I'll try to make sure I continue this way.

Thank you everyone for continuing to support my art!

Thanks! It's really hard for me to do but I'm putting my best foot forward. :>

Nice job! It’s great you are expounding on your characters

Had seen a skirt with something similar and tried it out. I like it.

The hip window on her skirt is a welcome touch
