Firework store set afire by a shotgun slug? We test it!

A viewer contacted me with this story and it seemed like a good thing to test out.

We are getting slammed hard with demonetization since Jan 1. It's worse than ever, so I want to again thank you for your support.

Firework store set afire by a shotgun slug? We test it!

What is the temperature of that deformed slug after the double wall hit?Maybe enough for black powder...

Moppi

That was fast! Thanks for taking a"shot" at this one! It sounds like it could have been a perfect scenario. They have all types of fireworks in there, though I dont think they had the golden shower. LOL. Nice shootin Danny!

Travis Macie

I'm a fire sprinkler man, too. Howdy, Ed

Paul Cassady

Damn fine shootin, Danny.

Okay, my theory is... the slug goes through only windows or thin wall then hits some firework that blows black powder into a huge cloud like we see in the video. THEN, said slug hits an hot electrical wire or piece of metal causing a spark and setting off the cloud of black powder into a ball of flame igniting more fireworks. That seems the only logical reason there would have been fire to me. Or the sparklers?

Mark Rittner

Piece of cake; like Danny said, the slug could have hit a wiring panel, a wire in the wall, a light that was on, some electrical appliance, a running motor, etc. that sent a shower of sparks everywhere. It's unlikely - though not impossible, depending on the kind of pyrotechnics it would impact - that the impact of the slug alone would have ignited a fire, but it depends on the slug; some have steel screws attaching the lead to a base wad, and the steel could have generated a spark when impacting a brick, cinder block, etc. And impact explosives like caps could go off if you hit a whole case of them for example. But how many fires are started by deer hunters in the dry leaves of fall woods by shotgun slugs? You guys should share this video with the New Hampshire police investigators to assist in their insurance fraud analysis; it might also prove to YouTube that you are doing materially-useful research of value to law enforcement and shouldn't be demonetized! Hey - what could it hurt? You have to wonder what a fireworks store is doing in a residential neighborhood, though. What's next - nuclear reactors next to grammar schools?

They wound up charging the "shooter" with several things. He's in some trouble: https://www.boston.com/news/local-news/2018/12/17/new-hampshire-man-accused-of-discharging-shotgun-causing-fireworks-fire (Special shout out for the fire sprinkler system in the fireworks store that was credited with keeping the fire contained until the FD got there. It's what I do for a living (almost 40 years now). They DO work!) I was of like mind with Danny when you started. I mean heck, there's no source of ignition with a flying chunk of lead, right? Gotta be a spark somewhere.... Then the sparklers sparked. Makes me think that their chemical composition is similar to that on a match, where friction is all that is required (self-igniting)? Pretty cool experiment and holy cow, can Danny shoot or what? Dead-eye Danny! Y'all be safe out there. You keep making 'em, we'll keep supporting them! -Ed on the Ridge

Is it possible that the guy used some kind of incendiary round? Could you repeat this process with some incendiary rounds ? Great video guys, glad we are able to keep your channel going. 😀

Stephen Wilcockson

Great video as always, thanks for still making these!

LukeTheJoker

Greg, everyone knows if you want to blow up a fireworks store with a shotgun slug, you need to use a 12 gauge 1 oz slug to shoot a 25 lb lead plate that ricochets the slug into a 10 lb keg of black powder sitting 2 inches away.

emonkia

Could the type of flash you get when a slug hits a metal plate start a fire?
