Hi there! I hope you're all doing well! I meant to get this up the other day, but fear not--I'm back with a new dev log, hurray~
As per the suggestions I took last time, it seemed quite a lot of you were interested in getting a deeper dive into the conception of Sister June! So, let's get started!
From the earliest point of her creation, I was still in the process of populating the city. Even IF Quest Failed is focused on monster girls at its core, it was important that the city feel lively enough and populated with a colourful cast of characters beyond nameless, faceless characters or vague silhouettes. In other words, I needed lots of pretty girls for Matt to fall for alongside the monster gals! I also knew that it was a bit risky to suddenly bring about so many humans after establishing QF as a monster girl series--but figured as long as they were just as dominant, players wouldn't mind as much. And, as far as I can tell, nobody HAS objected to the human side of the cast--so I think I navigated that potential minefield safely!
So, as I was slowly putting together the human cast--with Ren and Cynthia as some of the earliest characters to be made alongside the Queen--I pondered on what a city might have. And from there, the idea of a church came about, alongside having a cute nun. Because what kind of fantasy story DOESN'T have nuns? I mean, really! From there, a sweet nun was steadily coming to life.
In terms of her design, I was fairly confident in how I wanted her to appear: short, blonde hair, deep blue eyes, and of course--an ample bust that strained rather wonderfully against the tight habit she wore. It's very rare I have a design down 100% for a character, but in June's case, I didn't hesitate, haha.

Due to having such a strong, initial idea of her in mind, concept art and sketches of her in pre-production are sparse--though we do have the very first look at her here! As you can see, most of what is in her finished art is present here, with perhaps a slightly different pose. I think I actually ended up with her hands lower down, so she didn't block off the view of her chest, haha. Adjustments were made after so that she better conformed to what the current sprites were in terms of proportions. Both Sister June's concept art, and sprite were drawn by the wonderfully talented Sassquatch, who really helped out in the final days of Chapter 1's development, and the earliest parts of Chapter 2's. They also contributed to the demon girl design I've showcased before! A conscious decision was also made not to have her evoking any kind of real religion, so I was careful not to include any symbols or imagery that might suggest that, along with not giving her a veil--to clearly establish her as my own brand of 'fantasy nun'. Plus, why would you want to cover up that nice blonde hair? It'd be a crime, I tell ya!
Also, as a fun little bit of trivia, Sister June was almost known as Sister Karen! Though, given the unfortunate associations that come with that particular name these days, it's probably best that I went with June in the end, huh? In addition, June's name actually relates to a naming scheme I have across multiple games that might happen to include cheery, short-haired blonde girls with blue eyes! For example, in my earliest project, I had a character called May, who bears a lot of the same physical attributes--even if she's a lot more hyper. And if I ever have the chance, I'll have a similar character in another game called April--naming them after all the more sensible month names of the year. Quite a random fact, I know--but these are some of the smaller things I think about as I construct characters and worlds.
In terms of personality, I wanted Sister June to be the antithesis to almost all of the existing characters. Whereas lots of the girls are often dominant, and aggressive with Matt, teasing him to the point of tears, June on the other hand acts like the angelic nun she is, lavishing him with far more gentle affection. She's selfless to a fault, and will do whatever she can to ensure the happiness of others--even if it's to her own detriment. This carries across to her h-scenes, where she brings Matt over the edge with a rather gentle display of femdom. Because, hey, this is still a femdom game after all--she can't be COMPLETELY the opposite of the other characters when it comes to making the moves on young Matt. Though she makes a point to never get too carried away, and never drains him dry to the point of excess. Unlike other encounters with girls that assault him to the point of fainting, Matt simply walks away from a night with her in a daze, his legs like jelly.
Another point to bring up with her scenes is how she remains mostly clothed, though does tease a little more from time to time in terms of those GIANT holy assets of hers. As while she has no qualms bringing a man to bliss with her hands or chest, she still considers herself a sister of the faith, and feels she can't bare her body to any man--lest she be betraying the religion she follows. This was another risk I took, teasing a body like June's and then sternly saying you won't get to see ALL of it--but I feel like in some cases, being teased like that can be more sensual than just seeing it all. And I hope that the contrast between her being covered, versus Matt baring his length adds an extra layer to the femdom element.

In addition, I'm really happy with how June's voice has turned out. Voiced by the wonderful Milly Stern, who voices countless other characters in the game, she's given June a very calm and divine air about her--and to a point, almost a motherly one, too. Which wasn't my full intention when I created June, but I've happily leaned into it, to almost create a sort of 'mommydom' style vibe around June's scenes. Where she calmly speaks to you as she milks you dry, rather than getting too teasing or cruel about it. I hope you'll agree that the voice really does complete the whole package! And, for a fun bonus--if you want to hear what June sounds like drunk, please go and check out the Christmas 2020 video. Milly Stern did a fantastic job there capturing the slightly loopy nun under the influence!
Sister June's implementation in the game has also been a good way for me to utilise the currency system that Chapter 2 boasts--as her scenes are largely locked behind donation tiers, whereby young, lovestruck Matt has to donate more and more gold each time if he wants to see just how far June will go with her 'thank yous'. The prices aren't set in stone for each tier, and I might experiment down the line once more ways to gain money are implemented, but so far, I'm quite happy with how it's turned out. My hope is that the busty nun is incentive enough for players to want to throw their hard-earned money towards her, and she's probably one of the largest 'gold sinks' in the game. To fully afford her final donation scene, you'll most likely have to make some decisions into how you handle your cash, and whether or not you sell off anything rare that could potentially be used elsewhere for other characters. Do you donate EVERYTHING you have to make her happy, or do you wait and see if other opportunities come up? Choice is everything!

Finally, I suppose we can also look at bit into Sister June's backstory! I don't want to reveal too much, as quite a lot of her personal predicament is unveiled more naturally through the game the more Matt converses with her--but as you may or may not have noticed, the poor nun is on her own, saddled with the responsibility of running the entire church on her lonesome. Nobody quite knows where the other nuns and priests went that were said to have been inhabiting the church, too, but the topic typically brings about an incredibly sad look on June's face--so as to not make such a pretty nun cry, or face the divine punishment of the Goddess, the topic is quickly dropped. Despite this, though, the Goddess does seem to be fairly open-minded, as far as divine deities go--and seemingly has no problem with the way Sister June conducts her business. In fact, June even states that it was the Goddess herself that blessed her with such a...curvy body. And that it would be wrong NOT to use what she at her disposal. From this, we can only deduct that the Goddess herself is probably also highly gifted in the chest department, and has a love of all things paizuri related. Ahhh... Now isn't that a Goddess you'd want to worship?
The church itself has something of a rundown appearance--reflecting how much she's struggling to keep the place together, with dwindling funds and limited time in a day. You can see this through the more ragged carpet, and tattered and rotten wood throughout, and even the spiderwebs so prominent in the rafters. One regret I have is not having additional backgrounds for the church--as I feel it could have been cute to steadily improve the state of the church's look each time you donated, so you had a real sense of progression on top of the wonderful scenes bestowed upon you. But, hey, that's hindsight for you!
When not running the church--which takes up almost ALL of her time--June can also rarely be seen in the city itself, typically making quick runs to the market to stock up on supplies before heading back to the church again. Due to her blessed appearance, she's even able to get some choice discounts from the merchants that are taken in by her. Maybe they just want to keep on the good side of the Goddess...? Anyway, there's a chance you might be lucky enough to bump into her in the streets if you pursue your relationship with her, as selecting events can often lead to several more branching out along the way--often in the most unexpected of places and times!
In terms of her personal life--there isn't much she's willing to share before she took up her role at the church. It's possible she lived something of a troubled life, and found salvation through the Goddess. And given the body she has...it wouldn't have been any surprise that people may have tried to take her down a darker path before. It's just a good thing she found the light before she could get dragged down that way, and now serves as a shining beacon of hope and love in a city that's known to be quite rough on people from time to time.
It probably doesn't need to be said due to this HUGE write up (almost 2,000 words, gosh) but I personally really like Sister June. Everything about her design, to the way she acts, and even the h-scenes she currently has appeal to me on a rather personal way. Which, I guess is obvious, or I wouldn't have created her in the first place, haha. But--I definitely give her some special treatment in the game. If it was up to me, I'd try to find a way to add even more h-scenes to her scenario, just to infinitely stretch out the time you get to spend with her. But, we'd be here forever if I just kept making it about June, wouldn't we? The best I can hope for is just to spoil her rotten with more bonus illustrations down the line, so you, too, can bask in her holy glory!
Anyways, I hope you've enjoyed this lengthy dev log and insight into sweet Sister June! Maybe it was a little TOO long? I dunno--let me know what you think about these longform pieces--and if I should tone them down in the future? Either way, it was a lot of fun just to unwind and put my thoughts down to paper about the development process.
Praise the Godess and until next time! I love you all!
