Podquisition 232: Poking My Mysterio

Gotta love that Mysterio rub. Also, Rage 2 and other things!

Rage 2 - More Annoyance Than Rage (Jimpressions)

Rage 2 is pretty damn good... when it allows itself to be. When it's not being good, it's being frequently irritating and boring thanks to broken pacing and open world busywork.

The frustration is that its high points are really cool, but they feel few and far between due to the stuttered pacing. A fundamentally good game actively diminished by poor design decisions.

Shakedown: Hawaii - Capitalist Simulator (Jimpressions)

Shakedown Hawaii is about being a cynical, awful person who doesn't respect the law and actively hurts people to make money. Basically, it's about a CEO.

The latest from the Retro City Rampage studio, this Grand Theft Auto style take on capitalistic business models is worth a scope.

Randy Pitchford Is Poison (The Jimquisition)

I'd promise this is the last video I'm doing on Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford, but I can't guarantee against His Royal Weirdness doing something else screwed up that merits more.

Randy Pitchford's pattern of erratic behavior and continued aggression might have made him a successful YouTuber, but as a CEO of a corporation, as a man who personally goes out of his way to represent the br...

The Artistic Arrogance Of A Horrible Hollywood Hedgehog (The Jimquisition)

The Sonic The Hedgehog movie looks dire, and the CGI monstrosity masquerading as Sonic himself makes me sick. Genuinely.

As Paramount now scrabbles at the last minute to redesign him following intense backlash, let's pick Sonic the Manhog to shreds and chat about Hollywood's artistic arrogance.

Historically, moviemakers love to exploit nerdy licenses while simultaneously...

Asking Sterling Question Time!

Oh hello there for God's sake it is me!

Time for another round of Asking Sterling questions foisted upon me by yourselves, the lovely patrons of my Patreon. The deal is, you ask the questions and I answer them. How about that?

As always, fire away and I'll have the questions answered in a new Asking Sterling podcast.

The Epic Brutality Of Unchecked Capitalism (The Jimquisition)

Epic Games has not slowed down its sniping of PC games, acquiring an almost ridiculous number of exclusive releases. It threatens to starve the PC digital distribution market with remarkable aggression.

At the same time, the company has been accused of abusing its own workers, with people coming forward to speak of horrendously coerced overtime.

Epic is showing an ugly s...

Podquisition 229: Days Gone Is Zombies

Days Gone is fine. It's just a zombie game.

Elsewhere we discuss Boxboy, audio hardware, and someone played Bloodborne yet again.

Days Gone - The Art Of Motorcycle Maintenance (Jimpressions)

Days Gone is by far the weakest Sony-backed PS4 exclusive to have come out in a while. Doesn't mean it's bad, it's just not particularly great.

It takes inspiration from Red Dead Redemption, The Last of Us, and plenty other games, but fails to find its own voice or sense of charm.

It's alright though, if you want yet another zombie game.

Football Jock Games vs. Drama Nerd Games (The Jimquisition)

Some games get all of daddy's love, and some simply don't. There's a clear hierarchy of games in the "AAA" industry, with some getting more publisher support than others.

As BioWare continues to flounder in this rut of an industry, it's time to look at which studios are the drama nerds and which are the football jocks. Because this is a football town, not a place where drama gets th...

World War Z- Left 4 Zed (Jimpressions)

World War Z is based on a six-year-old film and copies an eleven-year-old game. The book its name is taken from is thirteen years old. SO, this is a very timely release.

When it's not broken, this Left 4 Dead ripoff is actually quite fun and features giant piles of zombies to mow down in a satisfying way. Unfortunately it's broken a LOT.

A Difficult Subject (The Jimquisition)

Okay... let's wade into this debate again. It's raged for years and has only gotten more poisonous in that time, but we're gonna step in anyway and try to talk about difficulty options.

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is the latest From Software game to spark a debate over difficulty and the merits of an easy mode. We're gonna talk about how weird the discussion is, and maybe get some eli...

The Elder Scrolls: Blades - Cynically Greedy Mobile Garbage

An experience unlike any other! A true Elder Scrolls game on mobile! Bethesda talked a big game about about Blades, but the end result is just another mobile con job.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades is a free-to-wait game where you watch timers tick away. Whether you're building up your town or opening loot boxes, everything takes time, and the time can always be skipped... for a price.&n...

A Video About BioWare Working Staff To Tears And Calling Its Mental Abuse "Magic" (The Jimquisition)

Kotaku published an instant hit of game journalism, How BioWare's Anthem Went Wrong. It's must-read material, shining a light on mismanagement and indecision.

More importantly, it details the stress and the overwork that companies like BioWare continue to put their workers through. So-called "BioWare Magic" - the concept that games like Anthem come together in the final few months -...

Roadmap To Nowhere (The Jimquisition)

We've touched on roadmaps a little before, but let's take a good ol' look at the concept in more detail. In tech, roadmaps can form crucial paths for development. In games, roadmaps have become a crutch - a buzzterm used to clothe the lack of content when a game is sold.

Roadmaps are the latest disguise for what's been happening in "AAA" games for years - software being pushed out i...

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - I Don't Like Sekiro And That's Okay! (Jimpressions)

Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is surrounded by buzz, and with good reason. It's a From Software instant classic, a game of stealth, brutal combat, and punishing difficulty.

I also don't like it.
