This is a great exercise for running through a bunch of chords you might not be used to moving around
this isn’t a beginner friends exercise, but if you’ve been playing for over 2 years I’d recommend giving it a go even slowly

For those that don’t know this is one of the coolest concepts in music.
so for example
Am = A B C D E F G
C maj = C D E F G A B
Just from this we can see they contain the same notes, so technically they’re the same scale with a different home note that changes the entire feel
something to consider & this will also help you nps out the rest of the fr...

So in this lesson, we’re taking some of the concepts we’ve explored previously with these weekly lessons but now we are expending the idea & introducing some melody with the pentatonic scale
we’re take the groups of 6’s from the lesson a few weeks ago, but now adding in the idea of moving using octaves
we also explore new keys in this video so let me know if ...

This is a pattern using inversions to get you ready for the strings changing that sweeping requires aswell as showing you some valuable shapes to get under your belt
Give me a shout if you need any help with this!

This is tricky if you’re new to sweep
but if you’re used to using the major and minor shape this is a brilliant way to help you start moving them through the chords in a scale
to start sweeping go to the hashtags and select ‘sweep practice’

This is very Am oriented!
if you find yourself in Am and needing a lick this will suit almost any rock/metal setting

This is a great way to move the pentatonic around the fret board using octaves
All I did in this lick was take one shape and move it using 3 octaves
give it a try and you’ll see how simple it really is

This is a great way to start seeing how inversions go together
I’m playing the same chord the whole time but it’s moving all around a similar area

In this lesson I talk about areas to find notes you’re most likely already used to using in your playing with open strings
i talk about the 3 places you can relate open string notes to the rest of the fret board as well as using octaves to get around the fret board quickly & easily
if you have any questions leave them in the comments!

Whilst shredding is cool, if the rest of your playing is lifeless then it will be tough to reach the standard you want.
this is an idea I’ve been using for years when writing and improvising. this exercise also helps improve your overall playing so well worth giving a go.

Working on your note groupings and understanding the difference between triplets & 2’s/4’s/5’s etc is unbelievably important for clean playing
a lot of players can play fast but their hands aren't sync’d up and this is because of wrist control & note groupings
accenting is also important so be sure to do a slight accent on each 1 of 4 notes

This concept was another one of those click moments where I realised how simple music theory actually is.
Every minor scale has the same chord order
Minor Diminished Major Minor Minor Major Major
mince you have this concept down then you can you the sweep shapes we have covered in any key!
These aren’t only for sweeps, they’re a massive help for professions o...

This is one of the first licks that helped me come to grips with the idea of grouping notes
Understanding that it’s actually important to know which direction your pick should end at the end of the lick. Knowing weather you need to end your grouping on a down stroke or an upstroke makes a massive different 🔥

This post is a great example of how to connect ideas to make licks that span the fret board & full space
the basic idea here is going from the Am scale in a 3 note per string variation into the inversions of the Am chord
so this would work over any Am backing track
and then moving everything a certain amount of frets will change key, so it’s good to get...

I made this lesson to help everyone struggling with speeding up their left hand & their hand sync
So usually it’s quite simple to build speed if your fingers are just doing the same pattern in finger order. Yes it can take time, but the basic idea is repeating the phrase until you’re happy with the speed.. which can take a while 😂
but then when you’ve gotten that ...

This was a lick I wrote with my student, Jack A
We had a fun lesson where we went over how we write licks like this
So our first way to make big lines that sound impressive was to just repate the same lick in 3 octaves and then to end on a chord tone
If you want any help with this stuff give me a message!

The basic D minor 3 note per string scale played doubling up on each string
Yes the speed is the issue in this but if you pick every note 4 times with tremolo picking and then work of getting your left hand their with legit - you just have to sync the two and you should you can play this within a few months
