Frayed rope effects

So I'm a bit ashamed to admit I kinda fell down a massive rabbit hole with this one.

Why? Probably because I found it interesting on some level, though one could argue the absurdity of spending more than a couple of days trying to figure out what is a very simple visual mechanic for only a single render (though I suppose it is a reusable workflow, so it might get used in some future stuff...

IMA FIRIN MAH LAZOR BEEMZ

This is part volumetric smoke test, part laser beam test, and a VERY rough blockout for the "Skybox Bar & Grill" dance room that will serve as the primary environment for my next image pack.

I wanted to try and theme this environment as something that had to do with altitude- almost like a euphoric region of space half way between heaven and earth where lots of partying and potentiall...

Announcing "Pump Up the Volume" image sequence

So, apparently I've decided to start working on another image sequence. I kinda figured I'd be waiting until I switched to Houdini before doing anything like that, but I think I can pull this one off relatively easily in C4D and I'd like to get another pack out there before the end of the year.

The work for this project will probably occur in three stages:

  • Building out the nig...

Jessica and Vanessa - Tube dress test

This is a bit of a weird one and I can't quite promise anything yet, which is why I haven't made any sort of official announcement.

I'm currently mulling over the logistics of trying to make another image pack before the end of the year. The general idea was to do something in a night club this time, presumably with a variation of the tube dresses shown above. The only problem is that- li...

Reverse shot, because it's really hard to appreciate all the curves from a single angle only.

Vanessa Go Fwoomp - 1/2

I kinda felt like Jessica was going to get lonely on the ceiling after doing the last two images, so I figured I'd try to do up Vanessa in the same style.

Unfortunately this is the same deal as last time- these are kinda hacked together prototypes, so they're more "future goal for Houdini" than something I can consistently do inside C4D.

Hello from Houdini (and other future plans)

I'm going to try and keep this as short as possible since I'm really not a fan of excessive text-only posts.

Long story short, I've been a CINEMA 4D user for close to 15 years now.

Most of my 3D artwork has been made possible through the use of C4D. I know the application inside and out, and have spent considerable amounts of time and effort learning all the intricacies, finding out...

Back side, for obvious reasons.

Hey, don't look at me- references aren't complete unless you've got all the angles covered >,>

Jessica Go Fwoomp - 1/2

So this is kind of half prototype, half future goal.

I recently got the itch to try and see what my characters would look like with a normal body, but also to compare that with their "usual" proportions and the new overinflated shapes as well.

Unfortunately, this scene was cobbled together from some incomplete work that I've had lying around my hard drive for quite some time. I can'...

Float with Friends bonus scene - 1/3

Looks like getting down from the ceiling will require some careful aerial acrobatics.

This is a bonus picture that occurs after the events of Float with Friends. I didn't really want to include these in the main sequence since it felt like the pack already had a decent ending (plus 52 panels was getting to be a bit long), so I figured I'd toss 'em up here instead.

This is a bit of a pseudo-teaser for something I want to work on next, but also old content that I never actually got around to releasing.

Months ago, I spent a considerable amount of time and effort remodeling the body and swimsuit morphs for Jessica and Vanessa. At the time, I wanted to make them proper inflatable so that they could go from a normal size up to their usual balloony hourg...

Float with Friends is now available!

I'm pleased to announce the immediate availability of my second full length image pack, Float with Friends.

This one was quite the whopper and took well over two months to complete. It consists of 52 panels rendered at 2560x1600 resolution, and weighs in at around 263mb. To date, it is the single largest project I have ever completed- both time and resource wise.

As promised, links ...

Tax insanity

So I really have no idea what's going on with this tax stuff on Patreon.

Near as I can tell, someone somewhere decided digital goods are somehow "tangible" and should thus be taxed accordingly. I suppose this makes sense to a certain extent, though I can't say that I agree with the idea of some phantom federal entity collecting tax on my behalf just because they believe they have a right ...

Long hair rig viewport demo

Soooooo, yeah. This is more or less what I've been working on for the past 30 days.

I'm pretty sure this is a reasonably new and novel method for handling long hair rigging in a completely deterministic fashion- at least, I've never seen anything like it before.

In essence, this entire rig was designed from the ground up to be as automated as possible while still remaining fully twe...

Vanessa New Hair Rig - 4/4

Back side shot.

This is a bit "mop head"-ish, but I'm not sure how much more I can improve that given some of the limitations in C4D when it comes to hair in general.

Hopefully it'll be good enough for now- I suspect the next major leap in hair quality will arrive whenever I switch over to Houdini. Truth be told, I nearly walked away from C4D twice while trying to build the new rig ...

Vanessa New Hair Rig - 3/4

I think I'm finally ready to call this one done, or at the very least "as good as it's gonna get in C4D".

Long story short, I landed up going back and overhauling a few of the systems inside the rig, mostly to try and compartmentalize a bunch of stuff but also to clean up the rig evaluation and try to eliminate some redundant calculations and unnecessary point buffers.

In any case, ...

Vanessa New Hair Rig - 2/4

So it looks like Vanessa's hair rig is finally working.

I really wish this didn't take as long as it did to figure out, but the entire setup required no less than two new plugins and a rewritten third one just to work around some of the more esoteric design decisions in C4D (actually, I'm being polite here, this was one of the most painful processes I've ever put myself through and I can'...

Alternatively entitled: "How to teach a hippo how to dance"...

Sooooo, this is what I've more or less been working on for the past two weeks (it's the bit that says "Spline Tool" in the lower right hand corner of the CINEMA 4D window). It's pretty much exactly as advertised- it's a custom spline tool plugin written in C++ designed to help wrangle spline objects inside C4D and extend their...

Shadow occlusion based iris shaders

This is something I've been working on for a little while whenever I've had some free time. I'm not actually sure if these are going to get put into production, but I thought the effect was somewhat interesting and nearly convincing enough to consider it a partial success.

Long story short, a lot of modern day rendering engines suck at eyes. The main problem behind this is the lack of bid...
