Rhythm Work Set #24

This rhythm is pretty challenging for most players. For three straight bars you continue to switch from a 16th note to an 8th note. The fourth bar breaks away from the pattern.

Rhythm Work Set #23

This rhythm goes between a 16th note and an 8th note for three beats, then a full beat of 16th notes. For most people who start to learn this rhythmic pattern, it can be fairly challenging.

Death Metal Guitar Etude Reverse Gallop Rhythm

The reverse gallop rhythm is quite common in death metal guitar playing. This etude can help you work on your reverse gallop picking chops.

In the video demonstration the tuning is in B standard. You are welcome to play this in any tuning you want!

The drums are also attached to this post so you can download and change the speed of the track to suit your current skill level.

Preview Video - What It Takes To Be A Shred Guitar Player

The video where I'm reading off the script that was shared not too long ago on what it takes to be a shred guitar player has been recorded, and edited.

The next step is to add some clips, funny things, transitions, labels, summaries, etc.

For now, all those interested in hearing the script instead of reading can now do so.

Script for Upcoming Shred Guitar Video

This is a bit of a read, but I wanted to share the current script for an upcoming video that talks about what it takes to be a shred guitar player.
Enjoy!

Being one of the fastest guitar players on the planet is extremely difficult. There is, without a doubt, a genetic component involved with how fast and how technically pr...

Next Lesson Preview - Mixing Up Gallops

Attached is the material for the next video lesson - Rhythm Work Set #22.

This rhythm mixes up the regular, reverse, and drunken gallops. The full lesson should be up by the end of the weekend.

Good luck!

Rhythm Work Set #21

This particular rhythm tends to confuse most people when trying to learn it.

A gallop is typically one 8th note and two 16th notes, and a reverse gallop is typically two 16th notes and an 8th note. Because this rhythm goes 16th, 8th, 16th (a combination of two 16ths and and 8th), and it feels really weird, I'm calling it the drunken gallop.

The rhythm is 1e_a2e_a3e_a4e_a

Speed/Tremolo Picking Guitar Course Preview

The next instruction course I plan to make is all about speed picking. Just finished putting together what will most likely be the bulk of the material today.

There is a 16th note and an 8th note triplet version.

The idea of this course is to gradually build up how many notes are being picked, and how many strings get used. This will continue to push your endurance while you continu...

Instinct Breakdown Riff by Decapitated

Lots of rhythmic fun in this B standard tuning breakdown riff by my favorite death metal band, Decapitated.

This lesson breaks down how to count these fast paced picking patterns to make them easier to learn and understand.

Next Lesson Preview - Decapitated Riff

Sorry for the delay in getting out January's lesson. My being out of town at the end of December kind of messed up my usual schedule. I know... excuses, excuses.

I'll be making the lesson tomorrow, and getting it released as well.

Breaking down the rhythmic elements of this riff will be the main thing. Decapitated, to me, has some of the coolest rhythmic riffs I've ever heard.

The Blasphemous Psalm to the Dummy God Creation by Decapitated

This lesson covers a pretty simple song by my favorite death metal band, Decapitated.

There are basically three parts for the rhythm guitars, so it's not too difficult of a song to learn as long as you have the speed to pull it off.

I am, yes it's true, a son of a bitch...

That's because I'm gonna be late in the June lesson 🙄

The plan was to release the next lesson on how to play Iced Earth, the live version, by Iced Earth, today. Well, I need more time to get this crazy fast thing comfortable enough to record a demo, and be able to teach it properly.

The past month got WAY busier than expected, and I'm heading out of town for a week tomorrow. So, ...

528 Videos... holy shit...

I did it. It's done. All 528 short video demos for the rhythm crash course have been finished today.

All that's left now is recording the 5 etudes. I'm slightly concerned about how difficult that's going to be since I need to be able to one shot each one individually for the video performances. Hopefully they won't take too much work to get down.

After that, time to render all 532 v...
