This was given to a student as one of their first strumming patterns working with 16th notes. The point of this rhythm is to show how you go from alternate picking the 16th notes then down picking the 8th notes and back to alternate picking the 16th notes. Doing this results in the strumming hand moving at the same pace the entire time. The quarter note provides a small mental break.
