Amazon Apocalypse 5: Chapter 35

The first thing I did when I parted ways with Prince Herius and Lady Velicia was call a meeting of my officers. No doubt she was working on Prince Herius at that very moment. I was on a time limit to get my affairs settled here.

“Centurion Asimi, you’ve done a good job leading so far,” I said as soon as my officers arrived.

“Thank you, sir! It’s been an honor and a privile...

Amazon Apocalypse 5: Chapter 34

I dropped Mimiko off near Mundwise, then circled around to the lake where I dropped off the Sanctum mystic realm entrance.

At some point, the lake had been destroyed, probably by somebody trying to break out of the mystic realm following a climactic battle. I had to admit, I was very curious about who won.

But whoever it was, there was only one fate waiting for them.

“Cyra, ...

The heretics and I stared at one another for a moment. The barrier thundered once more, breaking the silence.

“I should probably go check on that.”

“Go with him,” Alpha commanded while glancing at Beta-male.

He saluted her. I turned, and he followed, though I could tell he wanted to grab me by the shoulder again. I made sure to stay just out of reach.

My time with Sakura took me into the night, especially when Bridget and Myrina found us and joined in. The process gained me another fifteen levels, split between my race and class.

Congratulations, your class, Sage of Forbidden Knowledge has reached level 261!

Congratulations, your race, homo fatum deus, has reached level 260!

“Sakura! Uh... this isn’t what it looks like?” I glanced down at Mimiko on the ground beneath me.

Sakura shook her head, then pointed a finger at Mimiko. “You don’t need to explain things to me, Carter. I’ve been watching you. The one I need is that one!”

I stepped aside with a sigh. “I need her later. Please leave her intact.”

Sakura scooped Mimiko up and ha...

Once the big teleportation array back home was set up again in Yarris, we fired it up several times for trips back to Glacia. Many of the legions were in dire need of new supplies and had plenty of coins to spend, thanks to their victories.

We would also be sending about twenty thousand soldiers home, most of whom were either satisfied with their recent levels or too heavily wounded to ge...

The next few days passed in a flurry of activity. I gathered up all the components of the System Planetary Hub and secured them, then put up a few privacy barriers. My excuse was that I wasn't done fully fixing the thing yet.

In truth though, I'd finished that long ago. The project I was working on was a very different one and part of a scheme I cooked up with some input from the System.<...

After rounding up the fifth and eleventh legions, I gave Myrina time to deal with discipline issues. I asked Cyra and Sakura to help identify promising officers who were worth keeping, even if they had run from the field of battle. We had enough eyewitness accounts to piece together something of a story of what happened, and they could figure out who was cowardly and who had no choice but to ca...

Being a Kindling Architect didn't feel all that different from being an aethersmith, though there were some measurable enhancements to my usual crafting abilities. I could see further into nearby dimensions than before, which made crafting dimensionally expanded spaces far easier. I could also lift more weight with telekinesis and manipulate things with much more exacting detail.

I took flight in the direction of Yarris. Prince Herius was no doubt making the biggest splash in the area, and he had the most B-Grades with him. Probably more by now, considering how fast people leveled up on crusade.

Once I was confident I wasn’t being followed, I changed headings. I circled around back toward Tinsburg, where the rest of my army was waiting. The walls were manned the...

Clearly, this was where all the good stuff was. Myrina, Sakura, and Bridget were going to be sorry they stayed behind to loot furniture while I pocketed the good stuff.

“Indeed. Let me see if I can get these doors open.” I made my way to the console off to the left, which I ...

When I gave her the okay, I expected Myrina to go on a rampage. Instead, she gave a speech.

With a flourish, Myrina drew a sword I hadn...

Once the city was secure, I started sending out scouting parties. We needed to secure the area anyway, but now I had my new quest in mind as well.

“Pay extra attention to the plains east of here. Some of our prisoners indicated the cultivators might be looking for something there. If they are, it might be key to getting them off this world for good.”

Perhaps I was too soft without the effects of blood frenzy or my new draconic Signature Skill running through my veins, but the pair of cultivators seemed surprised when I told them I was letting them both go.

“Excuse me?” the man of the pair asked.

I soon turned my attention back to our mission. We needed to finish securing the outlying farmland, and the sooner we did it, the better.

Following a routine would have made me easier to ambush, so instead, I joined up with a few of the auxiliary bands and traveled with them. For about an hour, I would devote my full B-Grade power to helping them scour the land for any hidden cultivators....

After the fight, I realized how on edge I’d been. The draconic influence of my Signature Skill was no joke. I suspected the mental influence would only grow more powerful as I continued to master its abilities. Using the Signature Skill in battle felt far more natural than my usual abilities, like the powers it expressed were an extension of my will instead of tools I could use.

It took nearly half an hour to complete my work on Mimiko. The entire time she lay down while I ran my hand down her robes, I had visions of Sakura kicking down the door. While I’d be fine in such a scenario, I doubted the same could be said for Mimiko.

Thankfully, I was lucky this time, and the entire half hour passed undisturbed. With her cooperation, it was much easier to examine her...

Neither Morin nor Abesa were thrilled to be partnered with me. Maximus seemed cheery enough when he shook my hand though, so that more than made up for the two of them. Prince Herius was still busy with Lady Velicia when news came of an incoming Black Beast Sect attack.

“To arms, to arms! The enemy is just outside the city! I saw them with my own eyes!” one of the soldiers shouted at the top of his lungs. He was from one of the less well-trained legions, which was probably why he was just screaming the news into the streets instead of reporting up th...

The first thing Prince Herius did after declaring victory was go clean himself up. That was probably a wise move, considering he planned to talk to a bunch of terrified townsfolk who had just lived through an extended occupation from a sect of infamously barbaric and ruthless cultivators. Announcing they were safe while he was covered in blood and gore would send the wrong message.

Our army clearly had some kinks to work out as we got used to time on campaign. Thanks to the veterans in our ranks, our tents and supplies were packed up just two hours after dawn, but we were left waiting around for another three hours as the other legions figured out how to stow their gear for the first time. Compared to reaching B-Grade, becoming the Chaos Dragon, and developing my new Signature Skill, reaching godhood was practically droll. The System was a little more thorough about what my new partially-divine race indicated though.

We marched through the city with minimal fanfare. Prince Herius had his people beating on drums and blowing horns, so he no doubt was disappointed by the scarce crowds and lack of cheering. What fanfare there was would at least prove that he’d made good on his promise to lead an army to war to retake Glacia. The real measure of success would be how big the crowds were on our return.

I dreamed of ancient spires and forgotten magic. I was a scholar or a priest. It was hard to say which. Maybe a little of both.

There, among many others like me, I lived in an age of wonders, though I didn’t consider it such at the time. A sense of pride burned brightly in my heart, knowing that I was part of something bigger.

Each world we cleared was a little harder than the last. I picked up a few trinkets along the way, like a peculiar-looking sigil pendant from the demon world that looked like a shining sun.
