Yesterday, update 0.3.0.2 was posted, bringing the first part of Chapter 3 to patrons in the Scribe ($5) tier. I'm very happy with how it turned out, and hope to continue with this format going forward (and back; I plan on revisiting Chapters 1 and 2 and getting them up to the standard of late Chapter 2 and Chapter 3). If you haven't gotten around to pla...
Happy October. The days here in Tokyo are finally cooling off, and even though it's a bit gray and drizzly at the moment, I am so ready for the fall. I had a thorough clean of my apartment, and now I'm thinking about getting a room fragrance or some scented candles because I'm all out, so if you have any brands to recommend, let me know here or on Discor...
This week's update is a day late, and will be short and sweet. It's been a busy weekend, with both updates 0.2.9.3 and 0.3.0.1 dropping in the last two days. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about them when you get a chance to play. 0.3.0.1 is my favorite thing I've done with the game so far, and it's making me more motivated than ever to se...
IMPORTANT: As always, new updates tend to come with a lot of new and updated variables. I usually recommend playing a fresh game to avoid any inconsistencies. In this case, as long as your save game is from updates 0.2.9.2 or 0.2.9.3, the consistency should be alright (with one small possible inc...
I'm excited to be a week away from releasing the first part of Chapter 3 to Cantors. It's my favorite piece of the story yet, and I think it's looking pretty awesome.
It's still under construction, and honestly, having only a week left scares me a bit, but then I remember I'll probably go back and rework it 5 times after the release anyway. There m...
Earlier today, I posted update 0.2.9.2, available for patrons in the Scribe and Cantor tiers.
I'm really happy with how Chapter 2 came together, but I'm even happier with how Chapter 3 is coming along so far. There is a lot of stuff that needs to be done to get the first Chapter 3 content update ready in 2 weeks. I've gone through a lot of it alre...
It's been a pretty standard week of development here, and without any Itch de-indexing drama, this dev update might be a less eventful than the others.
I've been focusing mostly on getting the gallery (our most requested feature by far) set up and in shape for release of 0.2.9.2 next weekend. I'm calling it "Revelations" to go with our pseudo-relig...
Chapter 2 has been scribed, illuminated, and delivered. The first draft of it anyway. I imagine there will be a lot of stuff to revise and fix over t...
It's time to bring Chapter 2 to a close. The download links can be found at the bottom of this post.
IMPORTANT: As always, new updates tend to come with a lot of new and updated variables. To avoid inconsistencies, I recommend playing a fresh game, or at least starting Chapter 2 from the beginning. Otherwise, some of the story might ...
Brothers and Sisters and Siblings of the Lucent Priory,
This one is for the fantasy nerds (a.k.a 99% of you).
As a long-time DM, I've picked up a few skills over the years, and one of them is mapmaking. So, for the more hardcore fantasy fans out there, I've drawn this "fantasy book front page map" of the Kingdom of Calador in which Canticle takes place.
Canticle passed 5,000 downloads on Itch this week! I'm continually amazed by how many people seem to be responding to it. For me, something like this game has been missing from the gay VN space, and I'm happy there are a bunch of you out there who share that view.
Last week, I said how much I was able to do due to being on vacation from my job. Thi...
Brothers and Sisters and Siblings of the Lucent Priory,
It's been a busy week of development here. I was on vacation from work for the week, so I was able to dedicate more time to the game.
After the Scribe release last weekend, I got some more feedback and bug reports, although those seem to be dwindling now, so I think next weekend's Acolyte release of 0.2.8.3 should be relatively...
Brothers and Sisters and Siblings of the Lucent Priory,
Remember how I said we were 'so back' last week? Well, we're not anymore. Itch.io has decided to deindex the game again after I pushed an android release. As of today, we've been delisted almost a week, which means the game is once again very difficult to discover. At this point...
I'm starting a new series of posts focusing on the lore of the world of Canticle for my patrons in the Scribe tier and above. They will be written in the form of extracts from mostly historical (and perhaps pseudo-historical) tomes that can be found in the library of the Lucent Priory.
Brothers and Sisters and Siblings of the Lucent Priory,
We're so back.
Earlier this week, Canticle finally got indexed on itch.io again. (Funnily enough, it took them longer to index the safe version than it did to re-index the NSFW version after I removed the donation option). As it is, both Canticle versions are free and don't take donations on itch.io so your patronage here is al...
With the launch of Canticle: Safe Version on itch.io, I am posting the files for the NSFW version of the demo here on Patreon so that wandering players coming over from there can find it.
Brothers and Sisters and Siblings of the Lucent Priory,
It's been a crazy week. Starting with the good news, update 0.277 ("First Dates") is up now for Cantors. So far, people have been able to download it and play it and there have been no game-breaking bugs reported, and a new character that was introduced seems to be pretty popular, so all good on that front.
Your fellow novices are looking for a fun day out in Downprior after their first week of classes, and it's time to join them and get to know them a bit better.
IMPORTANT!
Canticle by its nature and design has many variables, consistencies, and branche...
Brothers and Sisters and Siblings of the Lucent Priory,
It's been a Jude week in the Mammoth household. To give you an idea, most other dates range around 15-20 MB, but Jude clocks in at 75 MB. I'm going to try and decrease the size through various shenanigans, but let's just say, after this date, I think Jude is going to be climbing up a lot of people's ratings.
Brothers and Sisters and Siblings of the Lucent Priory,
After our Apprentice Chanter got his glow-up, it's time for the Alchemist to get one as well. Brother Jude has been a bit off when it comes to the style of his sprite, just a little bit too smooth and cartoony, which messed up things down the line. In any case, his redesign is not as purposeful as Luca's and is only here to refresh t...
Brothers and Sisters and Siblings of the Lucent Priory,
It's been quite the week. For everyone who's been paying attention in the Discord server, you know that the game has been un-indexed for some kind of regular review at itch.io for almost a week now, so it's been very difficult getting the word out there. I'd like t...
In a patron poll on Discord, you had been asked to vote on whether Luca should gain some muscle, and the answer was pretty resoundingly: yes. Even so, there were those who made the good point about body diversity in the game, and I took their views to heart as well. Going forward with all the characters you will meet in the following cha...
It has been a hot and steamy week of development for Canticle as I make my way through the various dates that continue from the point at which Chapter 2 currently closes off.
Here is what I have been working on this past week:
Last week in the "Thank You" update (v0.228), I added a good chunk of Soren's date, and now that date has bee...
I'm starting a series of posts about specific characters in the game. I thought it might be a good way to gauge how people feel about them in general (so feel free to comment!) and fill in some blanks in world-building that haven't been answered yet (but hopefully will be soon with a system I'm planning to implement).
So, back in January, on a Tuesday, I woke up one day and I had the urge to do something creative.
I had been reading up on medieval monasteries for some time, both in non-fiction and fiction (The Name of the Rose was a big thing for me last year) and I had decided to make a D&D campaign set in a monastery at the end of the world where monks come to scribe a mysterious Incant...
