Which Do You Prefer?

First picture is edited, second picture is not edited, lemme know which you prefer in the comments!

I only ask because the way I take the photos they are in UHD but I use post processing that only shows up in HD pictures. I take these two photos and mix them together in Photoshop to create the first image that is supposed to be in UHD.

I personally see a very large dip in quality between the two however I really prefer the edited version that has DOF and color correction. But I'd rather get y'alls opinion and see if maybe more people preferred the unedited just because it's cleaner.

So yeup lemme know!

Edit: Thank you guys! Y'all basically confirmed what I had a feeling about. Keep the skin from the right, keep the background from the left. Woop woop teamwork make the dream work!

Which Do You Prefer? Which Do You Prefer?

The one with the foreground in focus and background out of focus looks far more immersive than any color grading, though in actuality a combination of both would be best.

DoF and other camera-like effects can really help to make the subject pop for sure, but it can also be distracting - if there's still other distinct shapes in whatever's meant as the background, eg. the tree, they may stand out more - plus with colour grading it can end up with the whole picture oversaturated; like others have noted, skin tones are super fragile to that, but if you selectively saturate/hueshift and reduce contrast in some of the background elements instead, that can help a lot. Since you're capturing in a virtual world, you may be able to capture the subjects and their lighting in one pass, and then render the background and any shadows in another to composite both in post more cleanly? Probably not worth the effort for most stuff, but might be worth experimenting with if you can find a fast workflow to do it. 😗👍 Honestly without the comparison I doubt many of us would really take issue, but it's still good to be able to give feedback and cool to see you trying stuff out either way! ☺️ Appreciate that you care to ask too, and cheers for all the good stuff you've given us so far. Legend. 😎👌

The second looks more natural

I prefer the first image as well per focus, quality etc., though I agree with Nicolas that the color correction seems slightly off for her skin?

Joe

Overall, the first one is better except for the skin's colour

Nicolás

I prefer the the second one because it looks like natural skin color, but if you intentions was to make it look lightly sun burnt then go with the frist one.

Gangtie

I think the first one is better because it focus/sticks out more the certain part of the picture and prevents you distracting yourself from less important information from the picture.
