210 Newsletter
Added 2025-03-07 08:00:06 +0000 UTCHey everyone!
If you've been following along, you'll know that not only episode 210 came out last week, but all of the cool stuff that Roger and I were doing in Dallas. I'm actually writing this newsletter on the plane back to LA where we're planning something really cool for you patrons, but more on that at a later date...
Before I get into episode 210's box art and some behind the scenes, I wanted to talk a little bit about Dallas -- because it was so fun meeting some of you guys! I know I've shared a few of these pictures over on my Instagram stories, but I also know that not all of you have social media ... so, I'm gonna post a few from Roger and my trip here. If you've already seen these, just skip down to the boxes :-)
Roger and I screened both Killing Zoe and The Rules of Attraction at The Texas Theater. They were new 4k scans of film prints made by NC-17. Shout out to the entire crew at The Texas Theater, specifically Chad the projectionist. He rocks.

Following the screenings were a discussion between Roger and I and a Q&A. I've had a few of you ask if that will be filmed, and the answer is yes! It was filmed, and it will be posted for free on YouTube. As soon as those are up I'll make sure to link it.

There were so many amazing fans and patrons that came out to see Roger and I at the Texas Theater, and lots of cool merch that Roger was asked to sign. One of my favorites was one of these giant metro posters of Killing Zoe. Roger had never even seen one in person before.

In our free time, we went out and enjoyed the cities of Dallas and Fort Worth! I love the DFW area and was so happy to be back in one of my favorite spots in the entire world, so I had to take dad to all of my favorite places. We went to the Water Gardens, where Logan's Run was filmed, and dad escaped Carrousel and made it to Sanctuary. I have to escape it next year ;-)

I also took him to one of the coolest spots in Dallas for nerds like us -- Leviathan Collectables. One of the guys that runs the store, Ryan, asked us to sign the VHS shelf! If you're ever in the area make sure to stop by, they literally have everything. I could spend some serious dough in here.

And you know if I'm in Dallas I'm definitely stopping by one of my favorite podcasts, There Are Too Many Movies, to hang out with the boys. I brought dad along this time for an extra special episode.

It's out now, so you can watch us chat with Chris, Josh, and Alex on VIDEO! Click here to hang out.

Well, that's it for my Dallas trip ... unless you're an Aftershow listener, where I may gush even further about the city I love in next week's newsletter. If you're interested in seeing more pictures of the trip, let me know! I'll get my film developed soon enough >:-)
Okay! Now, on to the boxes from this episode.
I'm missing the box for Sword of Lancelot because, well, the guy's saw it on film. However, I'll be going into the Archives on Sunday so I'll peek around to see if Quentin has added the box to our official podcast shelf. If not, I'll share a pic of my box in next week's newsletter.
To make up for it, check out this cool press book from United Artists that Quentin got for a previous title -- The Big Sleep, featured on Episode 204.

We currently have that poster hanging up across from where I sit in the Archives, so I stare at it constantly.
For our second flick of the episode, we had Guns of the Magnificent Seven.

The box shows the Magnificent Seven all lined up with the sun behind them, and on the back it features the best scene in the movie. I've seen a few of you guys talking in the chat about Guns of the Magnificent Seven versus The Magnificent Seven. Which one did you like better? Let me know in the comments below.
Lastly, we had my favorite movie of the episode -- From Hell to Victory.

Admittedly, I would never have picked this movie from the box art or the description. I feel like this box is really misleading. It makes it seem like the entire thing is about George Peppard and George Hamilton, but really it's an ensemble piece with all of the friends who decide to meet up. My favorite storylines aren't even mentioned here... That's the power of a box, though. Sometimes it makes a B title look awesome, and other times it makes a hidden gem look a bit like a stinker.
Well -- that's all from me today! Thanks guys for sticking with me this mega exciting newsletter. For all my Aftershow peeps, there's no homework for next week's episode. For everyone else, make sure you check the chats for the clues for episode 211, which will be dropped on Tuesday!
xoxo gala
