How I like to use the draft tracker (user guide)

Just re-sharing this post for new subscribers.

----------------

Hey everyone,

I just wanted to share with you how I like to use the draft tracker.

Everybody is different, so this is not me telling you it's the only way to use it, but it should provide tips on improving your draft day experience.

It's always good to hop into a mock draft before your draft day to get familiar with using the drafting tool.

You can use it on a Yahoo mock draft by entering any mock draft, grabbing the mock draft league id when the draft room opens, and importing it like a regular Yahoo league.

A big advantage on draft day is having a decent-sized screen so you can view the draft room and draft tracker side-by-side, but having them in different browser tabs is perfectly fine.

I generally don't lean into a punt build this early, but I have pick 2, and I'm taking Giannis, so I'm going to punt FT% from the beginning. When I decide on a category to punt, I like to lower the weighting for that category down to 0.25 rather than ticking it off (because I still want to be able to see the category).

When there's enough time between picks, I also like to short-list players of interest to my draft queue, so when it comes to my pick, I have a few guys already highlighted to make my decision a little easier.

I like to switch between the available player and power rankings view to see which categories I need to improve on, which categories the other people in the draft are doing well in, and which they're punting. It's generally a good idea to refresh your league data at the end of each round so all teams have an even set of players on their roster.

We're now 4 rounds in, so based on the power rankings, I will also decide to punt 3PM. I'm short on PTS and AST, so I'm going to dial the weighting up for PTS and AST, and down for the categories I'm punting (FT%, 3PM).

As we get deeper into the draft, I've also decided to punt TO, so it's turned into a triple punt. Here's how the power rankings looked at the end of the draft.

That's bogus. eff espn. I was looking forward to using the tracker for the first time.

I believe FantasyPros has it, but never tried it to see how well it works.

Do you know of a different website that does ESPN draft tracking by chance ?

Drew Newton

Not currently. ESPN doesn’t have a way to connect to their draft data during the draft. An alternative is creating a custom league and manually updating the picks (which I know isn’t ideal).

Hashtag Basketball

Does the draft tracker not work with ESPN?

Drew Newton

It’s currently only available for category leagues. I’ll work on making it for points leagues as well.

Hashtag Basketball

How would one go about creating a custom league? Tried to create a yahoo league to replicate my points league but i can only control one slot?

Ben Kolasin

It seems you can't make a custom points league, though?

Jim Hunziker

What about ESPN? I dont seem to see it there

Austin

My mistake. The league scouting report by default is based on the top 10 players on each roster, so changing the weighting can change the rankings of those 10 players. If you switch it to base the rankings on all players on each roster then it won’t change them since it’s factoring in all players.

It appears on your "manage league" dashboard after you import a Yahoo or Fantrax league. You can get there when clicking on the premium section of the website.

I generally like to have it set to whatever your active roster is + 2.

Hashtag Basketball

Yep! Just go to the roster view, select the team, and delete the player from the roster.

Where is the draft tracker found on the website?

How do I find and use the draft tracker and import it with a live draft?

Dylan Bednarczyk

It looks like when you adjust the weighting, the rankings also shift? Unless Im missing something?

Tynan Drake

Do you recommend changing the power rankings to all 14 players in a 14 team league, or keep it at top 10?

jeffrey iem

Is there a way to remove players that have been drafted if I am doing a live draft and not synced to yahoo/espn?

danny dang

Hey! Weighting doesn't impact the power rankings.

Hashtag Basketball

The final power rankings, is that with the weightings adjusted or back to normal? Or does it not affect the power rankings?

Daniel Tan

How can we do that? Assigning drafted players to every team when the draft is going on? Is this doable or feasible? Also, custom league screens seem different compared to the beta draft tracker tool. I couldn't understand the workaround I guess :(

Kaan Aydoğdu

Will try and find some time over the weekend to make a video!

Hashtag Basketball

It'll appear for Yahoo and Fantrax leagues once you import your league.

Hashtag Basketball

Yep! It works for points leagues, the UI just looks a little different.

Hashtag Basketball

Hey! It's currently not available for ESPN since live draft results aren't available in their API (how I pull in league data). A workaround is setting up a custom league and replicating your ESPN draft.

Hashtag Basketball

hi joey, does the draft tracker work for points leagues?

Tai

Can you use for espn?

Lucci Mustapha

Where do I find the draft tracker?

Justin

Any chance we could see a video tutorial too? Especially aspects like with the categories lacking.
