I just have to let this off my chest. The more I think about the fate of Meruem and Komugi, the more lost and conflicted I feel. I don't think I've ever felt about an ending this way before. On one hand, I keep thinking about all the humans Meruem has killed. Not just him, but the entire Chimera Ant species from his mom, the Queen. So you would think that I'd be relieved that he's dead. On the other, you can see just how much he's changed all because of Komugi. Not just in terms of his actions but even his way of thinking. It even got me thinking, "OH maybe he'll be a good King now". But obviously that won't really be possible because humans will simply be like cattle to them forever. Haaaaay! On the other hand, I can't help but wonder what kind of life they would have lived together if they both lived. T_T

2023-10-18 14:36:38 +0000 UTCThe name of your favorite outro song 'hyori ittai', was chosen well for this arc. It translates to 'two sides of the same coin', giving many implications. Gon and Killua are two sides of the same coin, one has darkness in his light, and one has light in his darkness. Meruem and Komugi too, one had a grand destiny, the other had a simplistic outlook in life. The visuals of ending 5 showed it pretty well. Lastly, Gon and Meruem are parallels (same sitting poses lol) as well. One became a monster and the other became a human.
