TBE Chapter 106

TBE Chapter 106

Ezekiel checked his system browser tab that led to the site dnd5e.wikidot.com, which, for some reason, was the website that his system was using regarding the spells that he could purchase. He didn’t know how to feel about it because when he searched the Internet using the first tab, there were sites that had more spells. Mostly, those were based on the older version of DnD, but it felt to him that there were now severe limitations on the spells that a wizard could learn in the 5e version and using that specific site.

In the tab that was allocated for the 4th-level spells, there was a total of 49 spells. Since he purchased three of them, which were Fabricate, Stone Skin, and Hallucinatory Terrain, that meant that he only needed to purchase 46 spells to be able to use all the spells under the 4th-level spells, as long as he entered them in his spell slots.

The 4th-level spell costs 1 gold coin each, and 46 of them would cost him 46 gold coins. Because of the recent income from the sale of the salt and pepper by Edward, he could afford to purchase all of the spells, so he did.

Ezekiel currently had a total of 194 gold, 60 silver, and some copper coins, and his budget for his woodworking business was separate, and he had already saved 6 gold and 30 silver coins from that venture. Their family was currently well off, and losing 46 gold coins would not cause him to worry too much.

After buying all the 4th-level spells, Ezekiel was satisfied with the amount of gold coins he had left. Not only that, but because of the presence of the minstrel, they could still sell the high-value spices in the larger towns and cities.

That meant that by the time they settled somewhere, Ezekiel wouldn’t worry too much about their finances and just concentrate on growing up.

He remembered when Edward the minstrel told him about adventurers, Ezekiel became excited. There was a chance that someday, his life would be like those DnD campaigns, and he liked the thought of that. Fighting off dragons and beholders and finding riches in a cavern with your party mates. It really sounds awesome.

But for now, he needed time for him and his brothers to grow up, and that would take at least five years. He didn’t know what his family’s state would be by then, but at the very least, he would have more options compared to now.

The next day, they left the town at around 9 in the morning. They left Edward the minstrel, who told Simon to tell him that he would catch up to them after a few hours, since they travel so slowly anyway.

Their travel through the roads away from the town was a little more lively than normal since this time, it felt like the real world because of travelers, not some bizarre world with no people. Ezekiel knew that he needed to practice his spells, especially the newly bought ones, but he thought that it might be better if they were a few days away from the town before looking for a private place where he could do the practice.

They spent the rest of the morning with Ezekiel talking to his brothers and Simon in English so they would get used to the language as soon as possible. The three joined in enthusiastically which was just doing some conversation in English using basic question and answer talks.

At around noon, Simon parked Prince Charming and Cinderella, their new donkey, under a large tree so they could have lunch. Robert and Luke named her. Cinderella looked malnourished compared to Prince Charming, and it only cost Ezekiel 10 silver coins to purchase her, but Simon said that under his care and a healing elixir, the female donkey would catch up to Prince Charming’s health soon.

While they were preparing to eat, they saw a horse running in the distance, and after a couple of minutes, they saw that it was Edward pushing his horse to try to catch up with them.

“Oh, good! I thought I lost you. I really didn’t want to lose you all, not until I learn magic!” Edward said when he saw them.

Ezekiel was amused that the minstrel was blatant in his desire to learn magic. He suddenly wondered how normal mages in this world learn magic. Maybe once they arrived at a big city, he could conduct research regarding that, and then maybe he could provide his brothers the opportunity to become mages since they kept telling him that they wanted to learn magic. Although Luke kept switching between being a magic caster and a pirate.

While they were eating, Ezekiel talked to Edward about the state of the road when it comes to the danger that they might encounter. Particularly, regarding bandits or slavers if those existed in this world.

“From the place you’ve come from, bandits were rare since there were few towns and villages there, and banditry was not worth it. In these roads to the kingdom of Delantan, banditry would be more frequent. Slavers, on the other hand, don’t exist in these parts since it’s outlawed by the kingdoms here, but I don’t see the difference between a slave and a serf.”

“What about monster or other supernatural creatures? To be honest, I thought that the supernatural doesn’t exist in this world since the only thing magical I’ve ever seen was me. At least not until we’ve encountered that haunted mansion in one of the villages that we passed through,” Ezekiel said.

“You’ve encountered a haunted mansion?” The minstrel excitedly asked.

It was Robert and Luke who answered. Then they chaotically told Edward and Simon the things they had seen inside the haunted mansion. After the boys ran out of steam in telling the story, Ezekiel continued.

“If it were just the zombies that we’ve encountered, I could have destroyed them, but I encountered a powerful aura that back then I thought I was not powerful enough to defeat. If I encountered them now, I’m quite sure that I could dispose of them. Why are you excited about that haunted mansion?”

“Haunted mansions in these parts were created due to old nobles dipping their toes in forbidden magic, and normally, those types of locations, once cleansed, would contain a tremendous amount of treasure that was collected by those old monsters over the years. As a matter of fact, I know of one nearby which is about five days' travel from where we are. Maybe we can go there and you can conquer that place and we’ll earn a humongous amount of treasure!”

Ezekiel became interested, and since they were not on a schedule, he agreed with the minstrel to check the place out.

“We will need to stop somewhere for at least a day so I can practice my spells. I learned a bunch of new ones but I still need to practice them,” Ezekiel said ponderously but when Edward heard it, Ezekiel felt goosebumps growing in his arms when he saw the desire in the minstrel’s eyes.

Ezekiel knew that the minstrel truly wanted to learn magic, but unfortunately for him, he didn’t know how to teach it to others.

After lunch, they continued traveling, but this time, it was Edward who was leading them. Since Ezekiel agreed to take a look at the haunted place that the minstrel mentioned, they would go there first before continuing their journey to Delantan.

When the sun had set, Simon simply led the two donkeys away from the road and into the forest at the nearest clearing they stumbled into. When Ezekiel was about to cast the Galder’s Towers, he felt goosebumps growing in his arms again, and when he looked around, he saw Edward’s eyes focused on him. He ignored the minstrel and conjured the houses. When they appeared, Robert and Luke brought all the things that needed to be brought inside and ran to the washroom.

Ezekiel knew that his brothers missed playing with the water with their toy boat. Simon led the cart and the two donkeys into the stable to feed, water, and rub them. Ezekiel followed his brothers to the washroom so he could wash up. Simon and Edward joined the language lessons that night.

They didn’t watch a movie since Ezekiel thought that everyone was not proficient enough to understand it. It disappointed everyone but they seemed to accept his reasoning that since the movies were great, he didn’t want them to experience a lesser enjoyment due to the language barrier.

After dinner, everyone did their thing. Ezekiel was delighted that Edward was willing to teach Simon how to wield a sword, so he promised them that once the lessons were over, he would prepare a delicious snack for them.

Ezekiel then spent 20 silver coins and purchased a massive One Piece Lego set for the boys, and when they saw the toy, their eyes grew as if they had seen the most beautiful thing they had ever seen in their lives. The three siblings spent the next couple of hours playing with the Lego set, with Ezekiel teaching his brother how to play with them. He taught them that with their imagination, they could even create new things using the Lego set.

Looking at his brothers’ faces concentrating on playing with the Lego set, he knew that Robert and Luke would probably spent the next few hours of their playtime tinkering with the toy.
