Poll: Tier titles
Added 2023-09-21 10:42:19 +0000 UTCHi everyone,
We reviewed tier titles across all of Miska's Maps projects. With Miska's Sci-Fi Maps, we started thinking about whether the current tier titles are clear enough in their order. While they sound fun and thematic, their order might be unclear when not presented in context with the other tiers.
As we are on the fence with this decision, and changing the titles might cause some confusion, we want to hear your opinion before making any changes.
For reference, the current tiers are (from lowest to highest):
- Smuggler
- Roughneck
- Forgemaster
- Starlord
What we would suggest as a clearer order would be one of these two:
Alternative A
This option has a clear space navy theme and clear ranks.
- Crewmate
- Officer: could be Lieutenant, Navigator, etc.
- Captain
- Admiral
Alternative B
This doesn't maybe sound so cool, but it can't get much clearer than this :)
- Bronze Tier
- Silver Tier
- Gold Tier
- Adamantine Tier
I would like to emphasize, that these are not final options and changes might be made. All feedback is welcome.
Please vote for your favorite by the turn of the month.
Thanks for your help!

The issue - if there is any - is when these are used without any other tiers for reference, for example. If I mention "Starlord tier," do you have any idea if that is the middle tier or high tier, or how many tiers there are in total? So, basically a matter of usability and user experience :)

(Moreover, Patreon sorts them from left to right, which would be the reading directionality of anyone in English.) Given that it will be obvious regardless, shouldn't the balance of the decision simply be swayed by a thematic/artistic choice? In such a case, I think the "cooler" or more "fun" names should win out.
