Cyl, the Shapeshifter

Cyl is a Masque: a shapechanger who can charm, read, and mirror people dangerously well. In Loomside, such a skillset is a profitable one.

Factions and guilds are regularly looking to hire infiltrators and spies to discreetly steal intel on caving maps and operations or even just valuable items from one another throughout the sprawled mountaintop cities. After learning druidic magic to complement his humanoid shape-changing, Cyl started to make a name for himself, which is bad business for a Masque. When you start to build a reputation as a successful spy, people get suspicious. Thus, Cyl turned to cave-diving.

On a ruin-exploration contract, Cyl’s coolness got the better of him when he stepped onto a floor that collapsed from under him. When the human with him dove out to catch him and the Celestial caught them both with a Feather Fall, he realized that people as trustworthy as them were few and far between, and implored the group to work together indefinitely. He even offered to learn their names after that.

Cyl is a druid/rogue NPC with a Challenge Rating of 5, and his release includes the following:

• His character card, which includes his character art and NPC stat block.
• A Bouldercloak, a cloak that allows you to pretend you are Snake from Metal Gear Solid.
• The Earth Mover, a magical rod wrought into a shovel, which casts various earth-related spells.
• The Gemcutter, a dagger inhabited by the spirit of a friendly dwarven gem smith.
• Mawkishins, shoes that allow you to summon swarms of insects from the ground.
• The Shielded Cinch, a belt that uses a shrunken magical shield as its buckle.
• Earthen Blast, a spell that allows you to either damage or blind enemies in a cone.
• Earthen Pit, a spell that opens up a ten-foot pit in the ground.
• Earthen Shield, a spell that causes a shield-shaped eruption of earth to either protect you or pummel foes.
