We hope you’re all continuing to be safe, healthy and happy! Just a quick update on the progress this month and what you can expect to see in the next build.
In the last Champion build, we introduced the first pass of our new environment of Grimgate city. We’re really excited to fill this space out, as we know it will be a great hub for gameplay, questing and developing the character. We prototyped a quick night/day cycle, as can be seen above. It’s essential to the flow of gameplay to have time pass, as this is (along with an economy) a principal resource for gameplay loops and helps create a sense of progression and context in the world. It’ll also allow us to really show off our style with different lighting setups, and play around with time-of-day specific NPC behaviours to create a living world.
A big part of our work this month has and will be on creating a “unified” build. This will basically result in a single download for all players (Patron and public alike), that will have Patreon integration in-game to allow access to varied content depending on your tier. This means more builds and updates for everyone while keeping downloads tidy and the player assured they always have the most updated build. We will still follow the same model with Companions receiving access to the main game, and Champion gaining early access to new experimental features. This will also facilitate a public version of the same build, which will allow everybody to sample some areas of the game for free, before committing to pledging for the full version.
From here, our first priority will be reintegrating the character customization and releasing the next iteration with improvements and additions.
