The idea that Izuku could win against Shoto wouldn’t even make sense lol. Izuku has no control over OFA and Shoto was fighting at half strength the entire time. Shoto was trained from birth to surpass All Might by the number 2 hero. So as soon as Izuku had Shoto use his full power, there was no way that Izuku could win. Also, I do actually believe that Endeavor actually put her in a mental hospital. He has 1000% beat her before, but this time I think he actually just put her in a clinic. Not out of care, but just cause he didn’t want her messing up his creations no more. But she’s also 1000% responsible for her actions, Endeavor is a bad dude, but his mom’s trauma don’t excuse her pouring boiling water on her child son.

I’m not sure if anyone has said it but I wanted to point out something for you guys. If you go back to the scene where Endeavor is pulling Shoto by his arm and the kids were laughing and playing and he said you’re not like them. Those kids were his brothers and sister. Endeavor’s “failed” “creations”. Just a little heads up in case you’re interested in knowing what they look like and the full torment that Shoto’s mother actually went through. She literally had 3 other kids before Shoto with this abusive man and probably had to deal with it all before this and couldn’t take it any longer especially since Shoto was the prodigy child he actually wanted.

Tbh I think it’s good story wise having Todoroki take the W. With the build up he’s gotten prior to the match and Midoriyas character falls in line with putting others before himself. Also it shows that Deku wouldn’t win simply because he’s main protagonist

There is just so much going on this episode that I don't even know where to begin. Like seriously, there's hours of stuff to discuss about everything that just went down. Personal highlights: 1) #SendEndeavorToTheShadowRealm Seriously, though. F*ck Endeavor. F*ck Endeavor in the ear. With a pickup truck. And then make him eat a goddamn fire-extinguisher with his toast. It's a sign of not just a good, but a FANTASTIC character that he can inspire so much hatred and division in a fanbase on purpose. Like the best of comic-villains and antagonists, I love to hate him. Unfortunately though, I think Horikoshi might have done too good of a job on him and the commentary he represents, because out of all of the MHA villains that have been presented so far, Endeavor is the only one that actually exists in the real world: eugenics-loving, child-abusing, wife-beating rapists that manage to prance above the law as a "good guy" because he's got money, power, and good-looks. (See Harvey Weinstein, R Kelly, etc.) He reminds me of Umbridge from HP - a nasty, manipulative sonovabitch that makes a mockery of ethics and is someone you've either heard about or actually known in life. While that's not to say that I think he's completely irredeemable - I'm behind in the anime/manga, and at this point I couldn't care less - I do think believe that if they try to make him even remotely likable, he'd better do something drastically heroic. 2) Todoroki's backstory. MHA is one of the few anime out there that pays very close attention to its shots, dialogue, and details, and answers questions that it sets up. Why are his mother's eyes never shown until the end? - He'd forgotten what she looked like when she was loving and sane. Why did he forget? It was the only way to survive that household with a sense of agency intact. Why did she say that on the phone? Because she knew it was only a matter of time before she broke. Why did she burn him? - She saw the Endeavor-half of his face watching her from the shadows, and reacted in self-defense. This also sets up the unfortunate (read: horrifying) implication that not only was this during a time when people knew what Quirk Marriages were and their inhumane details, but that other Heroes, and her own parents, had to have guessed what was happening to Mrs. Todoroki; she was having children constantly, getting beaten/raped/mind-fcked by Endeavor, and not one of them would (or could) step in because he's someone famous who can literally buy people's loyalty and services. Minus 4 million points, Hero Society. 3) Todoroki's character design. I'm not normally a fan of "chess-piece storytelling", but I'll be damned if Horikoshi not only makes it work, but makes it fun, too. The whole point of the Tournament Arc was not about the fights - if this were a typical 400-episode Shounen, then it absolutely would be - but instead, this showcases the personalities and relationships that the characters have to each other, and the complicated, emotional stages that come with pursuing college / a career. (Also, setup for future events...) That being said, Todoroki is a literal representation of only giving half-of-a-shit. In a good way, though. :) Whereas his design doubles as a way to represent his constant struggle and tearing between two opposing forces that can't mix, it also reads, from Deku's POV, as someone who thinks they can get everywhere by only giving 50%. Throughout the tournament, he's withdrawn and looks more and more deranged, because suppressing himself is literally killing him. But by the time he wields both fire and ice and chooses to free himself, he's crying, and he's got this half-thrilled, half-terrified grin on his face that's just...gah. Just all the feels, man. <3

Sky Sirak

This episode was so epic in so many ways! I think this was the first time Todoroki's ever smiled at someone his own age, and I loved Deku's "It's your quirk, not his!" Like something so simple but so powerful it can change someone's personal perspective on life. Great character writing, both Todoroki and Deku and the match itself was exhilirating. I was waiting for you guys to reach this episode and it was so worth the wait!

Some part of me wonders if part of his mother's twisted logic was to damage Endeavor's "perfect" child so that he wouldn't be able to achieve Endeavor's dream, and maybe he would stop trying to turn Shoto into a copy of himself. Obviously that didn't dissuade Endeavor, but if she was losing her mind she might have thought she was helping him. Of course the show doesn't give us enough context or give us her perspective, just glimpses of Shoto's past.

If you notice how the scene in the flashback was framed, Todoroki was peeking through the door when his mother noticed him. The side that his mother would have seen is the red side. In that fragile state she might have seen that red half and thought it was Endeavor or seen endeavor's influence in Todoroki, which caused her to panic and throw the water.
