EARLY ACCESS Friends S1 EP9&10

I love holiday episodes so much :)

EARLY ACCESS Friends S1 EP9&10

Comments

Hope you didn't feel pressured to do it but I hope people will cut you some slack lol

Heida

I just filmed episode 23 today (the birth episode) and i addressed it at the start and apologised ahahah hopefully people will forgive me 😂😭

IcedQuokka

I see 😂 I'm not gonna tell you what to do but I think people would be less angry with you if you just explained that. There are definitely times when Ross is in the wrong but so far he hasn't done anything outrageous yet so understandably people are confused lol

Heida

Tbh I think I got confused and I’m to embarrassed to admit it on the YouTube comments ahahaha for some reason I thought that Ross donated sperm to carol (with the intention of not knowing the baby) and then suddenly decided he wanted to be in the kids life 😭 that’s why I was so judgemental because I thought it was invasive for him to suddenly change his mind but I was just completely wrong lol 🥲 I think I realised in the next episodes or the ones after I don’t remember! But yeah I re watched it and I was so harsh 😅

IcedQuokka

I know people have talked about this on YT but I think you're being very unfair to Ross. Carol literally cheated on him and then she and the woman she cheated with undermined his role in HIS child's life. The "Bobo the sperm guy" comment was a joke but it was still disrespectful, and again undermining his role as the father. Also, why wouldn't he be a part of the child's life? He's not some deadbeat father who left Carol all alone. If Susan was a man, no one would expect Ross to just be okay with all of this. The writers just focused so much on the lesbian thing because of the time and it made for good laughs. (Speaking of, at that time bisexuality wasn't really talked about that much but Carol may have very well been bi. However, lots of gays and lesbians were in relationships/married to the opposite sex before they came out and loved their partner on some level, even if they weren't  'attracted' to them in that way). Anyway, Susan still wasn't as mean in this episode. The situation is unconvential and awkward but that last moment was so cute. As the pregnant person, I'm sure the talking to your belly gets annoying after some time but I think it's sweet when parents want their baby to know their voice. Also, I don't know if you noticed but this is a different actress for Carol to the one in E2, which was Anita Barone. She was looking for a role as a series regular and was later cast as Karen Foxworthy in The Jeff Foxworthy Show. From here on out Carol is played by Jane Sibbett. E9 is one of my favourite episodes in the entire series. I'm with you about Monica. She's literally the mum of the group and bears ALL the responsibilty. And about the keys thing, Monica clearly said "Got the keYs?" in a questioning manner, so I'm with her on that one. The other friends pissed me off a bit (especially Rachel) but Chandler had some hilarious remarks and the ending was so sweet. Growing up in Iceland we didn't really celebrate Thanksgiving and it isn't a National Holiday. But for a few years I did go to a potluck at my church, where everyone brought a side dish, dessert or drinks (we usually brought sweet potatoes) and the church provided the turkey. There was also a tradition where we wrote on a piece of paper what we were thankful for. It hasn't been held since before Covid and I honestly don't know why. It was very chill and cozy. I LOVE Janice. She was like supposed to be this character everyone hated but she's so funny and likeable. Also you kind of feel sorry for her. I love Chandler but he doesn't treat Janice very well and he never appreciates her while he has her. I think he loves her on some level but is not IN love with her. It's this kind of familiarity thing. Fun fact: Maggie Wheeler (Janice) accidentally let out that iconic laugh, mainly due to Matthew Perry and his comedic skills, which was added to the character. David Schwimmer actually hated working with the monkey (who was played by two different monkeys), but mainly because of how much the animal trainers dictated their time on set and wouldn't let him bond with them. David came under fire for those comments, specifically from Mike Morris, the animal trainer who worked on Friends, who called the actor "despicable" and claimed he was "jealous" of them. Fun facts: David the scientist guy is played by Hank Azaria who voiced several characters on The Simpsons and been in lots of movies. He has suffered from alcoholism and credits Matthew Perry, his longtime friend, for helping him get sober. I love David and he and Phoebe are so cute together! But it always bothered me how they said Minsk is in Russia, when it is, in fact, in Belarus, which has been independent from the Soviet Union since 1991 (three years prior to this episode), which is when Minsk was declared the capital. Lisa Kudrow comes from Belarusian descent (along with German, Polish and Hungarian). Shiny Happy People by R.E.M. which is played in the beginning of the New Year's Eve party scene was the original theme song from the pilot before it was later replaced by I'll Be There For You by The Rembrandts. The show was also called "Friends Like Us" and the coffee house was called "Espresso" then. You can watch it here: https://youtu.be/t7udpZG1Nu4?si=ynmLT9H6sagI365y. It's not bad but it just doesn't fit imo. The song that plays when Joey's poster is seen all over is Don't Stand So Close To Me by The Police. The band's drummer is Stewart Copeland, whose uncle Hunter Copeland was married to Courteney Cox's (Monica) mum at the time of his death in 2005. E9 is called a "bottle episode" where the crew has a limited budget. This is why most of it takes place in Monica and Rachel's apartment and is also why it consists of mostly the main cast.

Omg that’s actually so awesome!! I didn’t know about the hair or the song being that popular! That’s actually so awesome 😍 I do have a lot of international friends and they all say how watching friends was so important to them growing up as it helped them with their English, made me realise how it’s not just big in English speaking countries but also worldwide 🥰 it’s actually so beautiful that it’s a beloved show by everyone

I love your reactions! As a Gen Xer, Its hard to convey to younger generations how big a deal Friends was at the time. I am an anthropology major with an emphasis in pop culture. As you can see by the middle of the first season, character development and personalities of each character have taken shape. Also there are some props that have been introduced, that will become a part of the series that fans will recognize. Jennifer Aniston's hair style would become known as the "Rachel" and every girl seemed to have it in the 90's. By season 2, friends had become a cultural phenomenon. The theme song. "I'll Be There for You" topped the US Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart for eight weeks and also peaked atop the Billboard Adult Contemporary and Top 40/Mainstream charts. Even in Australia the song would enter the ARIA Singles Chart in August 1996 and peaked at number three on the week of October 13, spending a total of 20 weeks in the top 50. I apologize for the long comment! It's the professor in me lol
